Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going on a nostalgia train trip. I’m sure by now you’ve all heard about the DuckTales revival (if you haven’t check out my blog post about it here: ). At this point most of us have seen the promo pics and have heard the cast sing the iconic theme song. But now Disney has FINALLY given us the one thing we’ve been craving ever since we first heard about this revival. Are you ready!?! No! It’s not the announcement of a Recess revival (although fingers crossed for that). No, it’s not a Kim Possible revival…stop guessing already! We have finally gotten a DuckTales trailer! Excited! I knew you would be! So if you want to learn all about this AMAZING trailer, then please read on. Ready! Ok, let’s go!!!
The animation is definitely different than what fans of the original series are used to, but if you’re a fan of the the animation on other recent Disney XD shows such as ‘Wander Over Yonder’ or ‘Gravity Falls’ then you’ll love this stylistic choice. Another departure from the original series comes in the form of the voice acting (we’ll sort of). Scrooge McDuck’s nephews Huey(played by Danny Pudi), Dewy (played by Ben Schwartz) and Louie (played by Bobby Moynihan) definitely sound less childlike, and now have very distinct voices. They have also lost the famous Donald Duck lisp which further adds to their unique personalities. Two characters that do sound very similar to their predecessors are LaunchPad McQuack (played by Beck Bennett, most known for his work on Saturday Night Live) & Scrooge McDuck (played by David Tennant, most known for his work as Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who & Barry Crouch Jr in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire). LaunchPad McQuack sounds very similar to the voice of our childhood & Scrooge sounds so identical it’s scary (and by scary I mean completely AMAZING!!!). We’re also going to get to hear a voice that we’ve heard many times before due to the fact that Donald Duck will be played by Tony Anselmo (who has been Donald’s official voic since 1985). Earlier this month the show was officially renewed by Disney XD for a 2nd season so the channel obviously had high hopes for this reboot. Personally I’m super excited to see what the new cast & crew can bring to this iconic show. What do you think people of the internet? One thing is for sure, whether this show is a hit or miss, it will definitely take us another 27 years to get that theme song out of our heads again (DuckTales! Woo-oo!).
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to discuss two AMAZING YouTube video that we couldn’t stop talking about over the last 2 weeks. If you were young (or just loved Nickelodeon) between 1994 and 2008, then get ready for a major dose of Nostalgia as the internet reminds us of two shows that we couldn’t get enough of, All That and Zoey 101. Whether you grew up with one or both of these shows (or you became a fan after watching reruns of the shows), you will FREAK OUT when you see the two videos below. So now get ready to get hit right in the feels with a nostalgia brick. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!
So let’s start things off with the first video that made us have serious flashbacks to 2005. YouTube was only 1 year old, the 1st iPhone wouldn’t be released for 2 years, but we all had 1 serious question on our mind. What did Zoey say about Chase in that DVD she hid in the time capsule. For a lot of people, Zoey and Chase were their 1st ship and since we knew that he liked her, we just needed to know how she felt, for our ship to sail. Unfortunately this would be a question that we wouldn’t know for 10 YEARS! Well our patience paid off because on September 18th we found out the answer. Now I’m sure most of you know what this means, but if you don’t please check out the video below, and let the fanfiction writing begin.
Now moving on, I think we can all agree that Jimmy Fallon is awesome. He’s funny, creative, and he understands our love of the internet and includes it in his show (seriously if you haven’t already, you gotta check out some of his whisper challenge video). But every entertainer usually has to have a day job before they get that “big break”, usually they work as waiters, employees at stores in the mall, or even at your local favorite burger place. In fact we recently found out that Jimmy Fallon used to work at a VERY famous burger place that holds a special place in all of our hearts, and will forever be a part of the history of the food industry. Can you guess where? Yup, GOOD BURGER! That’s what you guessed right? Yes, Jimmy Fallon had everyone who was a kid in the late 80’s and basically most of the 90’s FREAKING out when he brought back our fav comedic duo Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell for a Good Burger skit. As you can guess it was really hilarious, but if for some reason you haven’t checked out the video yet (or just want to see it again), please check out the video below.
Hello people of the internet, for today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog I am going to introduce you all to your newest pop-punk obsession…7 Minutes in Heaven. The mastermind behind 7 Minutes in Heaven is the amazingly talented Timmy Rasmussen. This pop-punk band is very close to exploding all over your radio, so if you want to be ahead of the curve, continue reading. Ok are you ready?! Then let’s get started.
Timmy Rasmussen is a 20 year old musician (as of 2013) from Battle Ground, WA (I know that is such a cool name for a town!). He began 7 Minutes in Heaven in December of 2011, and the music originally had a very acoustic tone. Timmy initially released a Christmas EP through PureVolume (a website where aspiring musicians can showcase their work…here’s a link to 7 Minutes in Heaven’s page: 7 Minutes in Heaven on PureVolume). The Christmas EP received a lot positive feedback, and this inspired Timmy to move to Des Plaines, IL in order to seek more opportunities to share his music. After relocating, he released a track titled ‘Undercover Lovers’, which according to 7 Minutes in Heaven’s Facebook page had an unintentional “rad 80’s” feel to it. I completely agree with this statement due to the fact that this song has a touch of a synthesizer sound to it, which is certainly reminiscent of the early to mid 1980’s. I like this track because it not only has a cool throwback element to it, but it instantly grabs the listener’s attention, and leads you wanted to hear more. The next track he released was a fun tune entitled ‘Strike Three’. This song (which was an old track that was remastered for fans), certainly shows 7 Minutes in Heaven’s roots. Although the remastered version of this song has numerous instruments and very good production on it, you can certainly hear the original acoustic tone of the song, which shows how Timmy was able to flawlessly transition 7 Minutes in Heaven’s original sound into a more pop-punk sound (which is the musical direction Timmy eventually wanted to go in).
The first true pop-punk track that 7 Minutes in Heaven released was the infectious song ‘California’, which was released digitally on July 16th, 2012 (7 Minutes in Heaven – California – YouTube). This song is the perfect tune to add to your summer road trip playlist, or to remind you of that special summer love. I have been playing this song non-stop for the past few weeks, and I have to say that it becomes more addicted each time you play it. On March 8th, 2013, the band’s first original record ‘Get in the Van!’ was released, and I have to say that it is honestly one of my favorite albums of 2013. The songs are all super catchy, and the sound is very reminiscent of late 90’s-early 2000’s punk/alternative rock. If you’re a fan of Blink-182 or Simple Plan, then you will definitely like this record. One aspect of this album that I found particularly interesting was the name of track # 2 entitled #SorryNotSorry. I really loved the use of a hashtag (the name of this symbol: #) in the track’s title, because it is a play on this popular twitter feature, which I believe will really resonate with 7 Minutes in Heaven’ younger fans. Every song on this record is good enough to currently be on the radio, so I would suggest buying the entire album, because you will not regret it. Although this band is currently unsigned, I see big things on the horizon for 7 Minutes in Heaven. I can certainly see this band’s songs on constant radio rotation and with fans worldwide. If you haven’t already heard of this emerging super band, become familiar with them now, so you can say that you knew about them first!
