YouTube Wednesday: Hannah Jane Lewis…a new country music superstar has arrived

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog post, we are going to discuss a new singer/songwriter who will definitely make a splash on the country music scene this year. Hannah Jane Lewis is an INCREDIBLE musician with the vocal ability and artistry to completely take the music industry (and your radio) by storm. In fact, in August of 2014, she was featured in an article by the Wall Street Journal, who compared her music to country music superstar Taylor Swift. She has also played gigs at the C2C  Festival at the O2 Arena (in England) as an opening act for pop duo Jill and Kate. Hannah returned to the O2 Arena to play at The London Sundance Film Festival. She has also played an extended tour in association with the charity Life Skills Education, which is an organization which assists teens in learning how to deal with cyber bullying/online safety. Impressive resume so far! With several AMAZING covers and infectious original songs, you will certainly find yourself replaying Hannah’s songs for weeks. So…let’s jump into the blog post.

The first cover song that we’re going to discuss U.S. Hannah’s version of Blessed The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts (which was uploaded on July 8th, 2013 you can check out the video for this cover below). This is the first video on Hannah’s channel that I saw, and it instantly blew me away. I love that this cover shows how well she is able to control her vocals, while playing guitar (which is really hard because it involves thinking about way too many things at once). I also really enjoyed the fact that Hannah was able to show that she can emotionally connect with a song, which is an essential asset in music. This video really shows that she has the talent and heart to become a country music superstar. The next cover we’re going to talk about is Hannah’s rendition of Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware, which was uploaded on October 21st, 2014 (here’s a link to the cover: Say You Love Me – Jessie Ware (Hannah Jane Lewis Cover). Once again Hannah is able to showcase her ability to control her vocals, and we are truly able to see her capabilities as a vocalist. She also shows that she can cover a song in such a way that keeps the original vibe of the song, but also always Hannah to make it uniquely her own by adding he own style. I love that we are able to see Hannah perform a song that is in a genre other than country music (even though she KILLS it in that genre), because we’re able to see all of the layers of her artistry. Next let’s move on to Hannah’s original music!

The first original song that we’re going to talk about is Hannah’s song Seventeen Again, which is the lead single off of her debut self-titled EP (which was released on November 10th, 2013, you can check out the official music video below). This is an energetic song about looking back on life and wishing that you weren’t in such a hurry to grow up (preach girl!). This song also talks about living every moment of life to the fullest, and appreciating the beautiful things in our lives that we may take for granted. The next song we’ll going to talk about is Hannah’s song First Time Feeling, which is off of her EP Run With You, that was released on January 18th, 2015 (here’s the link to the music video Hannah Jane Lewis | First Time Feeling – Official Music Video). This is a fun song about first love, and how it can often stay with you even after it’s over. This is definitely the perfectly song to blast when your relationship ends but you don’t want to be sad (or everyone around you is tired of hearing sad songs on repeat). The majority of Hannah’s songs seem to be upbeat and fun, which is definitely a reason why you’ll want to check out both of her EPs. If you love country music that is fun, energetic, and has a lot of heart and soul in the lyrics, then you’ll definitely wanna to add these songs to your playlists.

YouTube Wednesday: Alex Centomo…the beauty/fashion/lifestyle guru that you will be tuning in every week to watch

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog, we’re going to talk about a new YouTuber who I know you will all be obsessing over (if you’re not already). If you’re not already watching Alex Centomo’s YouTube videos every week, then you’re definitely need to join the other 189,931 subscribers (as of February 18th, 2015) who anxiously await this beauty/fashion/lifestyle guru’s new videos. So if you’re ready, let’s jump into blog post!

The first video we’re going to talk about is Alex’s ‘Chubby Bunny Challenge’ video, which was uploaded on December 24th, 2012 (here’s the video link: CHUBBY BUNNY CHALLENGE). I wanted to start with this video, because it is one of Alex’s first videos, and I think that it really shows off her fun, bubbly personality. I think we can all agree that it’s cool to see our fav YouTubers having fun, and enjoying the things we enjoy (I mean cause we all love stuffing marshmallows in our mouths with our friends right?). So this was definitely a good video for Alex’s viewers to start feeling like she’s like any other for that they could meet and become friends with (except this friend can give you awesome fashion/beauty advice). Speaking of fashion and beauty advice, let’s move on to the next video! The next video that we’re going to discuss is Alex’s ‘Get The Look: Ashley Benson Inspired Makeup & Outfit’ video, which was uploaded on February 2nd, 2014 (here’s the video link: Get The Look: Ashley Benson Inspired Makeup & Outfit). Now we all love Ashley’s style (because seriously Pretty Little Liars is life right? Right!), so you gotta love that Alex broke down an “Ashley Benson type” look that we can all copy and/or alter as we like. This video uses mostly high end products, but you could definitely substitute any of the products for any drugstores that you want. This video will give you the perfect school/winter look (of course it is perfect for any season), because Ashley has a very casual yet cool vibe when it come to her fashion choices, that’s great for all those days when we want to look cool with as little effort as possible.

Ok now we’re moving on to Alex’s ‘Mermaid Waves Hair Tutorial’ video, which was uploaded on September 6th, 2014 (here’s the video link: Mermaid Waves // Hair Tutorial ). With spring just around the corner, you will definitely need inspiration for new hairstyles. Luckily, this video is perfect! In the video, Alex teaches you how to create really perfect, natural looking curls that you can either keep tight or can run your fingers through it to create looser waves. The last video that we’re going to talk about is Alex’s ‘How I Edit My Instagram Pics’ video, which was uploaded on February 14th, 2015 (here’s the video link: How I Edit My Instagram Pics // Tumblr Inspired). I thought that this was a really cool video to include in this blog post because we all want to know how to have the best selfie possible. In this video Alex not only shows us what apps she uses, but also briefly explains how she uses these apps to edit her photos. If you look at Alex’s Instagram page (which I will link below), you will be able to see that she knows how to perfectly edit a photo, so you can know that you’re getting good advice.

Monday Memos: Bars and Melody…the newest musical duo who is taking the world by storm one computer at a time

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to talk about an AWESOME new duo that has already gone viral on YouTube, appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, and is on their way to exploding even more this year. If you haven’t heard of R&B/Rap duo Bars & Melody, then read on to learn all about one of the internet’s favorite new musical forces.

Bars and Melody are a R&B/Rap duo that consists of rapper Leondre Devries, and vocalist Charlie Lenehan. The two artists met over social media in 2013, and in January 2014 formed their act. They first rose to fame when their audition (which was filmed in early 2014) for the singing competition show Britain’s Got Talent, went viral in 2014. The duo were given automatic entrance into the show’s semi-finals when head judge Simon Cowell pressed the “golden buzzer” (a new feature introduced in the 8th season), after their audition. After finishing 3rd on the show, Bars and Melody were signed to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Music.

So with all of the entertainers who compete on talent competition shows every year, you might wonder what makes this duo so different. Well, one reason is the fact that their audition video (which was posted on YouTube on May 10th, 2014 (here’s the link: Bars & Melody – Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer act | Britain’s Got Talent 2014), received over 22 million views in a little over a week. That sort of viral praise is definitely not easy to come by, and if they’re already this popular, it only makes sense that everyone will fall more and more in love with them as their careers’ continue. In fact, the duo received so much attention, that they were invited to appear/perform on the Ellen Degeneres Show, while they were still contestants on Britain’s Got Talent. Their audition video now has 63,997,419 total views (as of February 15th, 2015), and shows no signs of slowing down. Another reason why Bars and Melody are definitely artists to watch, is the fact that at the young ages of 13 and 15 (at the time they auditioned), they seem to have a clear idea of the types of artists they would like to be. Finding your own unique style is very important for an artist, and if this is done right, then this is what turns good artists into memorable ones. Bars and Melody have shown that they have the potential to become memorable by developing their own style that fans can identify with. The fact that the duo was able to take Rapper Twista and R&B singer Faith Evans’ song Hope, and it into an anti-bullying anthem is astounding, and shows that their level of artistry will only get better and better as time goes by.

Now let’s get to the part that you were waiting for, the music. The duo’s first single Hopeful was released on July 7th, 2014 (here’s a link: Bars and Melody – Hopeful) , and peaked at #5 on the UK Singles Chart. Hopeful is an anti-bullying anthem which tells the story of what Leondre Devries (AKA Bars) went through when he was bullied as a young child. Because bullying has continued to be such a big problem for kids, teens, and even young adults, this is truly a song that people can not only relate to, but will also be inspired by. The duo’s next song Shining Star was later released. This is a fun, upbeat song about the duo’s love for their female fans (definitely a crowd pleaser). I love that they came out with a fun song after releasing Hopeful, because this shows that they are artists that can have fun and release a song with a serious message. The duo released the music video (here’s a link: Bars and Melody – Keep Smiling) for their next single Keep Smiling on February 9th, 2015, and is officially available for sale today (February 16th, 2015), so definitely go buy it after you finish reading this post (you’ll love it!). This is another inspirational hit from Bars and Melody that is about being thankful and appreciative of all that you have. This is a cool combination of the best elements of their previous two releases that will force you to keep smiling all day. With a tour and debut album expected this year, you will definitely be hearing A LOT more from Bars and Melody.

YouTube Wednesday: Urbandekaybabe…the newest YouTuber that you will be addicted to in 2015

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to discuss an AMAZING YouTuber that I know y’all will become addicted to. If you love experimenting with cool and new makeup looks, or want to know how to perfectly recreate fun looks (BTW some of these looks are PERFECT for Halloween), then Kayla (aka urbandekaybabe) is the beauty guru for you! I recently discovered her channel, and now I have been replaying her videos for days. Please read on to learn all about urbandekaybabe.

The first video that we’re going to talk about is Kayla’s ‘Spring Inspired Makeup’, which was uploaded on May 8th, 2013 (you can check out the video here: Spring Inspired Makeup ). This video really impressed me because it has a lot of cool information, and Kayla shows that she is already comfortable in front of the camera. I think that a person’s ability to be entertaining on camera is one of the most important things that a successful YouTuber can master, because it’s not easy to show your personality on screen in a way that will interest viewers. The fact that her personality is able to perfectly shine through, helps her make an instant and long-lasting impression that will continue to bring viewers back to her videos, The next video that we’re going to talk about is Kayla’s Zombie Makeup Tutorial, which was uploaded on October 26th, 2013 (you can check out the video right here: Zombie Makeup Tutorial+some scaring! ). This is honestly one of my favorite videos on her channel (and that’s saying a lot because y’all know how much I LOVE hauls…but we’ll talk more about that later). This video will give you the PERFECT zombie look for Halloween that will impress your friends at any party, and emotionally scar young children (oh but make sure that you’re careful because some of the ingredients could cause allergic reactions to some people, or cause skin damage when you try to remove it. Just make sure that your skin can handle the ingredients BEFORE you put it on your face, and if you are under 18, ask your parents before you try this). I really love how this look seems so real and difficult to do, but if you follow this video, you should be able to replicate it pretty easily. There are also a few other cool Halloween style looks on Kayla’s channel, so definitely check those out if you want to wow all your friends in October!

The next video that we’re going to talk about is Kayla’s ‘Huge Haul’ video (oh you knew a haul video was coming!). This video was uploaded on January 31st, 2014, and you can check out the video right here: HUGE Haul!- Michael Kors, Forever 21+ More! . As much as I love haul videos, I really really love BIG haul videos! I really love that these kinds of videos allow you to “shop” without having to actually spend money, and you can discover new sales, products, and stores that you might have never known about otherwise. Another reason why I like watching haul videos when I’m looking for YouTubers to profile on here, is because it’s not for everyone to just sit, talk about what they bought, and keep their audience engaged in the video the entire time. I think that if you have the ability to do this, then there is a big chance that you can become a YouTube star. Kayla is a perfect example of this, because she is able to keep you interested in what she is saying, and before long you completely forget how long you’ve been watching the video (and this particular video is a little over 21 minutes long, so you know she has to be interesting to hold our attention for that long). Lastly, I really love that Kayla showcases a variety of stores and products/styles in her hauls, because this will help her better connect with her viewers. I think that a true guru is able to show how you can make a variety of styles and looks work, and Kayla does this perfectly! The last video that we’re going to talk about is her ‘Lazy Day Hairstyles’ video, which was uploaded on January 23rd, 2015 (you can find a link to it here: Lazy Day Hairstyles ). I really like that this video shows cute hair styles that are different than your typical pony tail or top kit, but are also simple enough to complete in a short period of time. With winter now upon us, it can be hard to get up early and fix your hair in a cute style for work or school (I mean we would all rather take the extra time to sleep and pray for a snow day right?). These hair styles will spice up any outfit (so you can spend less time searching through your closet and more time sleeping…yay!), and is the perfect way to really shake up your winter style. So now that you’re completely obsessed with Kayla’s channel (because you know you are), please subscribe to her on YouTube, and look below too follow her various social media accounts.

Monday Memos: How to style the 2015 ‘Color of the Year’ in any season

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to discuss the color of the year. I was really excited when Marsala was chosen as the official 2015 color of the year, so I thought that it would be fun to discuss different ways that you can add this color to your wardrobe so you can rock the color of the year in any season. Remember that you can always add more or less of this color depending on your outfit, however the color is in a deep red wine hue, so it is a little more suited for the fall and winter. Also I tried to find items for y’all that were as close to the hue of Marsala as possible. Ok ready? Let’s get into the fashion!

Winter: Peacoat from monroeandmain.com

Peacoat from monroeandmain.com Fall item

I really love this peacoat because it’s cute and definitely looks like it can keep you warm (I mean isn’t it great when you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort!). It’s the perfect piece to wear over a dress to a special occasion, and will also dress up a casual outfit. Since were not very far into the winter season, this is the PERFECT time to invest in a piece like this.

Spring: Metalshine Liquid Eyeliner from Sephora

Marsala Metalshine Liquid Liner from Sephora Spring itemI felt that this color would be harder to pull off in the spring because springtime is all about bright, fun colors, so I thought that this eyeliner would be an interesting way to use the color. The spring is the perfect season to experiment with your eyeliner color, so this color could make a rally unique look for parties with family/friends.

Summer: Fringe Cross Body Bag from somethingmadison.com

Fringe Cross Body Bag somethingmadison.com Summer item

I really love the idea of incorporating fringe into your summer looks, because it gives off that whole boho, music festival kind of vibe that’s really fun. I love the tribal pattern on the flap of this bag, and the fact that the fringe and the rest of the bag is solid Marsala. This is a really fun bag that will go with just about every summer OOTD (outfit of the day).

Fall: Zoya ‘Pepper’ Nail Polish from artofbeauty.com

Zoya Pepper Nail Polish artofbeauty.com fall itemI really love a dark lip or nail during the fall (and winter), so I thought that this polish was a good choice. This is also the perfect way for you to try out the color without having to fully commit. Nail polish is also usually pretty inexpensive and easy to find, so you can experiment with the color of the year without having to spend all of your money (because let’s be honest, you HAVE to have to keep your Starbucks budget intact).

All seasons: Skater Skirt from ebay.com

Skater Flared Pleated Mini Skirt

I really loved this skater skirt, and thought that it was another fun way to easily bring the color of the year into your wardrobe. A skater skirt is very easy to dress up or down, and is appropriate and cute for a lot of different situations and occasions, so it’s definitely a staple piece to add to your closet in 2015. This skirt is perfect for spring or summer as it is, and with the addition of tights or leggings could also be added into you fall or winter style.

Monday Memos: Shawn Mendes….the soon to be biggest breakout artist of 2015

Hello people of the internet!!! Since this is the last ‘Monday Memos’ blog of 2014, I thought that it would be cool to talk about who will be the next big breakout music artist of 2015. Last year I predicted that 2014 would be a HUGE year for Ariana Grande, and well y’all saw what happened (if you want to check out that blog post then here’s the link Artist Spotlight: Ariana Grande). This year I think that Shawn Mendes will rule the charts. If you’re not already obsessed with him, then read on to learn exactly why this singer/songwriter only needs 6 seconds to win you over.

Shawn Mendes is a 16 year old Canadian musician. He first gained popularity by posting 6 second covers on Vine in 2013. He quickly received millions of views and followers in just a few months. In January of 2014, manager Andrew Gertler discovered Shawn and brought him to the attention of Island Records, where he eventually signed a record deal with. In early 2014 (before he was signed) he toured as a member of the ‘MagCon Tour’, which also featured numerous other social media stars. In June of 2014, he released his first single ‘Life of the Party’. The single ended up making Shawn the youngest artist to debut in the Top 25 with a debut song on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’. He also opened Austin Mahone’s nationwide tour, (called ‘Live on Tour’) as an opening act and released his debut major label EP ‘The Shawn Mendes EP’ in July of that year. 2014 continued to be a big year for Shawn due to his win as ‘Choice Webstar: Music’ at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards. As you can see, 2014 was an insanely awesome year for this rising artist. With an upcoming opening slot on Taylor Swift’s ‘1985’ tour, and the release of his debut full length album (sometime next year), 2015 is only going to be more insane for Shawn. So if you want to become a fangirl/fanboy now, please read on.

Next up we’re going to get to the part that y’all have been waiting for, yup, we’re gonna talk about the music! So let’s kick things off with Shawn’s debut single ‘Life if the Party’. This sweet ballad is about Shawn telling a girl not to be afraid to be herself. It’s a cute story about how we should all be comfortable in our skin because life is too short to be afraid. I thought that this was a really cool debut song for him because it’s catchy, and has a good message. Definitely a song you’ll want to add to your winter playlists. Next up we’re gonna talk about Shawn’s newest song ‘Something Big’, which was released in November of 2014. This song is a fun, upbeat song that is about the feeling you get right before something big in your life is about to happen. In this song we got to see a little of Shawn’s rapping skills (as if he wasn’t amazing enough), and you also get to see his different layers as an artist. Although I love his ballads, it’s cool to hear him have fun with a track, and it makes you wonder how exciting this song must sound live. The last song that we’re going to talk about is called ‘The Weight’. This track is a breakup song that tells the story of someone pretending that they’re ok without the person they love, but not actually being ok with the breakup. This is a really good song to cry to, and I found that the lyrics were really unique and insightful. This song also shows that Shawn has the emotional range that an artist needs to sing this kind of song (which shows how rounded of an artist he already is). These songs all leave you excited to see what he comes out with next, and just how much he will grow as an artist in the future.

Monday Memos: 2014 Winter Lookbook

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to discuss our ‘2014 Winter Lookbook’. With Christmas and New Years Eve on the way, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to start thinking about what cute outfit you want to wear in all of your holiday selfies. Usually in the lookbooks, we show casual, girly, and edgy looks, but this time I thought it would be fun to switch things up and style trendy, grungy, and preppy looks. Remember that you can mix and match the various looks, add accessories, or make various other changes depending on your personal style, and what the weather is like where you are. So let’s jump into it!

Trendy Look:

Trendy Look Faux Fur Jacket H&M

  • White faux fur jacket from H&M:

I love this jacket for a trendy look, because it’s warm, comfortable, and instantly adds a touch of class to every outfit. This jacket is perfect for any holiday party, and isn’t real fur, so it’s animal friendly.

Open Back Maxi Dress Pac Sun Kendall and Kylie Collection Trendy Look

  •  Black open back maxi dress from the Kendall and Kylie Collection at Pac Sun:

Crop tops were HUGE this year, so this dress is an easy way to take the trend and transition it into the winter season. The slit in the front adds a flirty touch to the dress (perfect to lure in a midnight kiss from that special someone on New Year’s Eve).

Black and White colored blocked ankle strap pumps from Forever 21

  • Black and White colored blocked ankle strap pumps from Forever 21:

Adding the color block trend always gives an extra touch of coolness to any outfit, so these shoes are the perfect thing to easily color-coordinate your outfit without simply adding a solid colored shoe.

Rhinestone Bib Necklace Forever 21 Trendy Look

  • Rhinestone Bib Necklace from Forever 21:

I love this chunky necklace because it’s an easy way to add a cute accessory to your outfit without having to try to hard (gotta love easy fashion!).

madison evening belles ambrose Trendy Look

  • Madison Evening Belles Ambrose clutch from Kate Spade:

No trendy look would be complete without a cute clutch, and with the cool jewels on this one, you will feel like you’re carrying stars with you wherever you go.

Grunge Look:

Grungy Look Fishnet-Paneled Textured Top

  • Fishnet-Paneled Textured Top from Forever 21:

This top is perfect if you want to try out the crop top trend that was really popular all year. The partially concealed cutout in the front of the top really gives it a touch of edge, which makes it perfect for any event you have scheduled this holiday season.

  • Gypsy Warrior Super High Rise Lace Up Skinniest Jeans from Pac Sun:

I really liked these jeans because the lace up front is an interesting touch, and will definitely add a little more style to this or any other crop top you want to pair it with.

Grungy Look Vintage Wash Denim Jacket Wetseal

  • Vintage Wash Denim Jacket from Wet Seal:

Who doesn’t love a jean jacket right? This is the perfect piece to give the outfit a 90s grunge feel, and the best part is you can turn the jacket into a DIY project by drawing on it, adding cool embellishments, or ripping it.

Grungy Look STEVEMADDEN-BOOTIES_PAYYTON_BLACK-SUEDE

  • Payyton black suede booties from Steve Madden:

This boot has a smallish heel which is perfect for anyone who is hated by all heels (like me), and the fringe adds a very 1970s vintage edge to the look. This boot is also versatile enough to pair with a lot of other outfits so it’s a good staple piece to have.

Ecote Embellished Small Shoulder Bag Grungy Look

  • Ecote Embellished Small Shoulder Bag from Urban Outfitters:

This cross-body bag has a lot of very cool golden colored jewels all around it, that go along perfectly with the vintage grunge vibe this outfit has. It’s also small enough to carry with you anywhere, but big enough to hold all your essentials (I mean how could we survive without Instagram and Twitter?).

YouTube Wednesday: BriannaxBeautyx…the beauty guru who is quickly rising to the top

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to talk about another AMAZING beauty/fashion guru who you NEED to know about. I was randomly looking on YouTube (because I’m always randomly on YouTube), and I stumbled across a channel that I am now so in love with, and I know y’all will be too! If you’re not already familiar with BriannaxBeautyx, then you need to subscribe to her channel right now (I mean like right this very second…finish reading this and then please go subscribe to this channel, because you’ll become obsessed). Brianna is a 13 year old beauty/fashion guru from Ohio, who is also a musician (here’s the link to her music channel: Brianna Nicole). With her knowledge about all things beauty/fashion related, witty banter, and natural on-camera charisma and honesty, I anticipate that Brianna will soon become one of the queens of YouTube. So get ready to meet your newest fav YouTuber.

The first video we’re going to discuss is Brianna’s ‘Makeup of The Day’ video (here’s a link: Makeup Of The Day! ), which was uploaded on June 10th, 2012. I picked this video because it’s the first beauty video that she uploaded, and I feel that you can really see her raw talent as a beauty guru. You can really see how a YouTuber grows from their first video, and in 2 years’ time, Brianna has grown A LOT from this initial video. I do think that the look that she shows on this video is a nice, easy to copy look for anyone just starting to wear makeup, because she shows exactly which products and colors she uses. The next video that we’re going to discuss is Brianna’s ’10 Products I would repurchase Tag’ (here’s the link to the video: 10 products I would repurchase TAG!), which was uploaded on February 17th, 2013. I thought that this would be a fun video to talk about because it’s an easy to find out different beauty guru’s favorite products. Personally I like watching these videos because you get honest opinions about lots of different products, so you find out which products you should purchase, and which ones you should skip (so you can save your money and do even more shopping. I really enjoyed Brianna’s video because it was a fun mix of high-end and drugstore products. She also explained why she chose each product, which is perfect for someone who is starting to learn about makeup.

Next up we have the ‘Summer Clothing Haul 2014’ video (here’s a link: Summer Clothing Haul 2014! {VS Pink, Hollister & More!}, which was uploaded on June 10th, 2014. Now y’all know that I had to include a haul video in this piece because haul videos are AMAZING! This video really gives viewers a glimpse into Brianna’s personal style. I really liked that the items she showed were trendy, very style neutral (meaning most people would probably like these pieces regardless of your personal style), and affordable enough that if you like the pieces shown you could probably buy the same items, or something similar. The last video we are going to talk about is Brianna’s ‘Back To School: Emergency Kit For Girls!’ video (link: Back To School: Emergency Kit For Girls!), which was uploaded on August 23rd, 2014. I thought that this was a really cool video idea, that y’all would enjoy, and the video is actually really helpful so I suggest you all watch it. I think that Brianna mentions a lot of really good beauty/personal items that you should have with you at school or work. This video will definitely help you avoid a lot of common embarrassing situations so I would suggest you watch this video closely. Lastly, I really love how you can see just how much Brianna has grown as a YouTube over the past 2 years. I’m really excited to see where she goes from here, because she is definitely a star on the rise that we all need to look out for.

Keep up with Brianna!:

Monday Memos: The best Christmas music of 2014!!!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to countdown the 5 top Christmas songs of 2014. Last year when we did this list, it had different versions of classic Christmas songs from many different decades. This year I thought that we’d do something a little different and only talk about Christmas songs from this year. This list is a really fun mix of classic and new Christmas songs that I know you all will love! So get ready to ask Santa for some ITunes cards this year, because these completely addicting songs will be on your playlists well into June.

5) Sabrina Carpenter ‘Silver Nights’:

Once I heard this song I just had to add it to the list, because it has a very chill, romantic vibe that’s perfect  for listening to by the fire with that special someone (or while stalking your favorite celebrities’ twitter wishing they were that special someone…don’t worry it’ll be our little secret). I also wanted to add this song; because Sabrina Carpenter is definitely someone I would watch in 2015. With an AMAZING debut on the music scene with her EP ‘Can’t Blame A Girl For Trying’ (which has a song written by the equally AMAZING Meghan Trainor), and a lead role on Disney Channel’s newest breakout hit ‘Girl Meets World’, it’s safe to say that Sabrina is well on her way to a long career…not bad for a 15 year old (doesn’t she make you feel like you haven’t accomplished anything in life…same here).

4) Idina Menzel ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’:

I was so excited to write about the song because I think that we can all agree that Idina Menzel is AMAZING! Whether you became a fan of hers through her work in various Broadway musicals, her role on the show ‘Glee’, or her latest hit leading role in Disney’s ‘Frozen’, you gotta admit that once you hear her voice you just can’t run away. I wish that I could just talk about her entire Christmas album, but then I would have y’all here until next Christmas. So instead I decided to talk to y’all about a song that we all know but I think gets pushed to the background a little. Whether you’ve heard this song on the radio or in a movie (gotta love those old animated Christmas movies), EVERYONE has heard ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’. I honestly love how upbeat and fun this song is, because it puts you in the Christmas spirit and makes everything you do feel fun. This is definitely a classic that you should put on repeat this Christmas season!

3) Meghan Trainor ‘I’ll Be Home’:

Now here is a singer/songwriter who has made her presence known this year. With her hits ‘All About That Bass’ & ‘Lips Are Moving’, Meghan just keeps amazing us. She brings that same talent to her original song ‘I’ll Be Home’, which is soon to become a Christmas Classic. This is another feel good song for all of you romantics out there! Perfect to listen to while you’re drinking hot cocoa or your favorite hot winter drink.

2) Ariana Grande ‘Santa Tell Me’:

We don’t even really need to discuss why Ariana HAS to be on this countdown. I mean she is honestly the biggest breakout star of 2014 (which we predicted and you can see the blog post for here: Monday Memos: Artist Spotlight Ariana Grande | celindareyesblog). After numerous consecutive hits, it only makes sense that the girl with the Midius touch releases a Christmas song that we LOVE! I like that this song is romantic (because honesty who doesn’t love a little Christmas romance, but it’s about asking Santa to not let this Christmas love go to waste (sorta like a prequel to ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham!). I like that the concept is different than your typical Christmas song, and it’s a fun one to sing-along too. You should definitely add it to your winter playlists!

1) Pentatonix ‘Carol of the Bells’:

I feel like I could write 10 pages about this INCREDIBLE group and it wouldn’t be enough, so I’m going to give y’all the short version. Honestly I think all  A Capella groups are amazing because how awesome and talented do you have to be in order to make performing without any instrumental backing. It’s honestly mind-blowing so because of this, I felt we had to give them the #1 spot. I am also a huge fan of this song because it’s so beautiful, but it’s also equally difficult to perform, so I feel we have to give them a lot of credit for their flawless rendition.

YouTube Wednesday: Dylan Gardner…the music industry’s newest triple threat

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’, we are going to discuss Dylan Gardner, an INCREDIBLE singer/songwriter/producer, who is on his way to taking the music industry by storm! Dylan is from San Tan Valley, Arizona, and according to his website’s bio, “…has spent the last 10 years of his life obsessed with the art of songwriting…”. The bio also says that Dylan is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, and Pro-Tools producer (doesn’t this guy make you feel like you’ve wasted your life on Netflix…yeah me too). In 2013, he was signed to Big Deal Music Publishing, and recorded his debut album ‘Adventures in Real Time’, which was co-produced with John Dragonetti of the indie rock band ‘The Submarines’. I first heard his music when he performed as a guest star on Shane Dawson’s podcast, and from the minute I heard Dylan sing, I was COMPLETELY obsessed with his music, and knew that I had to let you all know about him (if you were already a fan, then you know why we have to make sure EVERYONE knows about him). So please read on to see why Dylan Gardner’s music is what you should be thankful for this year.

Dylan uploaded the first video (a cover of the entire second side of The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ album, with each song performed in 15 second intervals) on his YouTube channel on April 9th, 2014 (you can check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIfb4BuTL1A&list=UUBRDzAp5-vMtxPz3ZlE8J4g). I really enjoyed this cover because it was creative (I mean who else would think to cover an entire side of an album), and it really showed what an incredible musician he is. In this video we got to not only see Dylan sing, but also play numerous instruments such as: the piano, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and ukulele. The cover really flowed well, and felt like one big song of Beatles awesomeness. The next video we are going to discuss is Dylan’s cover of Vampire Weekend’s song ‘Diane Young’, which was uploaded on June 18th, 2014 (you can check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZrfTd_7p1s&list=UUBRDzAp5-vMtxPz3ZlE8J4g&index=6). This was a really cool cover because it kept the vibe of the original song, but also added a special energy that Dylan’s fans have come to love. Another thing that I really liked about this cover is that it was an acoustic cover that Dylan performed live in his bedroom. This felt really special, because it takes you back to when your favorite YouTube artists would make similar covers in their rooms. This cover definitely holds a nostalgic vibe because of this, which just adds another layer of cool to this video. Next up we have Dylan’s mash-up of alternative rock band Ben Folds Five songs, which was uploaded on June 25th, 2014 (you can check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EaUF95V2Hk&index=5&list=UUBRDzAp5-vMtxPz3ZlE8J4g). This is definitely one of my favorite covers that Dylan has done (even though that’s sort of hard to say because their all awesome). What makes this cover stand out a bit, is the fact that he performs a mash-up of snippets of Ben Folds Five songs, that start with different letters of the alphabet (by the end he’s covered songs that have titles ranging from A-Z). I just found this idea to be not only very creative and cool, but it also shows the type of meticulous dedication Dylan has in his work when it comes to his craft. I can’t imagine how long it took to find the songs, arrange them so they sound like one big song, learn to play the music on the piano, and then actually film it. This video should make us all really excited, because if Dylan puts this much hard work into a cover video, imagine how much hard work and creativity he puts into his own music! The last video that we are going to discuss is his ‘Let’s Get Started (through the Decades)’ video, which was uploaded on July 7th, 2014 (you can check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FL_6s6U0b4&list=UUBRDzAp5-vMtxPz3ZlE8J4g&index=4). I decided to add this as a bonus video on this blog post, because it was just too awesome to leave out. The video plays the first 1min 40sec of his debut single ‘Let’s Get Started’ (off of his debut album ‘Adventures In Real Time’, which we talk more about in the section below). The song is divided into 9 sections, and each section shows the sing performed in the style of a different decade of music, ranging from the 1930s-2014. I LOVE this idea so much I honestly can’t even tell you guys how much! I have never seen a video like this, and it’s definitely a really fun promo piece for the single, and shows that no matter what style of music it’s performed in, ‘Let’s Get Started’ is a great song. This video also cements the fact that Dylan is a very creative and talented musician, and makes me REALLY excited to see what he releases in the future.

The first song off of Dylan’s debut album that we’re gonna talk about is the lead single ‘Let Get Started’ (you can see the official music video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ZvVm2d5a8). I think that this was an excellent choice to kick off Dylan’s career, because the song is fun, upbeat, and incredibly infectious. It has a very indie rock vibe, and will definitely have you singing along and dancing. I am honestly so obsessed with this song that I have had it on repeat ever since I first heard it (I promise you’ll feel the same way once you hear it!). Honestly this song does everything a good lead single is suppose to do, it brings the audience in and leaves you excited to see what else is on the album. I definitely give this song 5 smiley faces (because smiley faces are more fun than stars). Next up we’re going to discuss another AMAZING song on this album called, ‘Heroes Tonight’. This song has a very Coldplay meets The Lumineers kind of feel, that I think will quickly become a fan favorite. The song has a very “young and free” vibe to it that makes it the perfect song to jam out to in the car, listen to while you’re working out, or have a hairbrush karaoke session to (release that inner rock star people of the Internet!). The final song that we’re going to talk about is the song ‘With a Kiss’. I really love the lyrics in this song, because they really show off Dylan’s talents as a storyteller. One of my fav lines has to be in the hook when he says, “Love’s just a life, we all start with a kiss”, this simple sentence perfectly sums up every love story we’ve ever heard, and is a really interesting take on the classic love song. Although I wish I could have reviewed all of the songs on this album (because they’re all awesome), I picked 3 that I felt really showed off Dylan abilities as a singer/songwriter & producer. I would definitely suggest that you all check out the entire album, because all of the songs will blow you away.
