YouTube Wednesday: Keegan Acton…the new beauty/fashion guru that YouTube is obsessing over

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to talk about an incredible YouTuber who you will soon bekeegan acton addicted to. It can be really hard for a YouTuber to distinguish themselves because of all of the competition from the other great channels on the website. Once you see Keegan’s videos, it’s easy to figure out that she definitely stands out from the crowd. Not only is she knowledgeable about all of the topics that she discusses on her channel, but she’s also very entertaining to watch, has a natural on-camera presence, and she is able to engage her audience from the start of the video to the end. If you’re not already subscribed to her channel then you are definitely missing out. So please read on to discover the YouTuber that all your friends already love. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The first video that we’re going to talk about is Keegan’s ‘Sephora and Charlotte Russe’ haul, which was uploaded on June 6th, 2013 (you can check out this video below). This video is the perfect introduction to Keegan’s channel because it shows us that she’s a natural born entertainer who can not only mesmerize her audience, but also leave them wanting to keep coming back to see more. I also love that this video is a haul because we get a glimpse at what Keegan’s personal style is like, which is a great way for her to connect with her audience. Next up we have her ‘First Impression | Nume Octo Wand’ video, which was uploaded on December 26th, 2013. First impression videos are great because we get to see what our fav YouTubers really think about a product without worrying that they’re just trying to get us to buy the product. In this video Keegan shows that she’s really good at reviewing products because she gives a very detailed review that tells us why the product is great, but does so in a way that allows us to figure out if this is the product for us.

Now we’re going to talk about Keegan’s ‘ My Braces Experience | EVERYTHING You Need To Know About Braces’ video, which was uploaded on March 17th, 2014. I think that one of the best things about YouTube is that we really get to know our favorite YouTubers in a way that makes us feel as if they’re our best friends. This video is a perfect example of that, because through this video Keegan is able to connect with all of her viewers who have braces, or will get braces in the near future. This is a MUST SEE video if you fall into either of these categories because Keegan is very detailed when she explains the process of getting braces put on, taken off, and everything in between. The final video that we’re going to discuss today is Keegan’s ‘ iPhone Case Collection 2015’ video, which was uploaded on June 22nd, 2015 (you can check out this video below). Personally I love watching iPhone case collections because you get to see some really cool cases and learn where to get them (gotta have more stuff to add to that letter to Santa). In this video we not only get to see some really cute phone cases (I seriously want all of them), but we once again get a glimpse into what Keegan’s personal style is, and how it has evolved. I really wish that I could have written about all of her videos because they’re all AMAZING, so I would definitely check out this channel if you want to give yourself an early Christmas present.

Monday Memos: A Charlie Brown Christmas…celebrating 50 years of T.V. magic!!!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to discuss an event that we all experience every year. This isa charlie brown christmas something that we all grow up with, and no matter how old or young you are, it still has the same affect. What am I talking about you may ask? A little movie that we all love known as ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’! In 1965 ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ first aired on CBS, and thus started a Christmas tradition that would continue to enchant families for decades. The movie was commissioned by ‘The Coca-Cola Company’, which asked ‘Peanuts’ creator Charles M. Schulz and his team to create the special in 6 months, after they viewed an unaired documentary staring Schultz called ‘A Boy Named Charlie Brown’. This year ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ turned 50 so let’s discuss why this amazing movie has become engraved as a part of our Christmas tradition. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

Although there are so many things about this movie that we love, I think that the 3 main things that you can pinpoint that makes ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ different than other Christmas specials is: the characters, the music, and the risks that this movie takes. One of the most important aspects of a great story is for it to have amazing, memorable characters that we can relate to. The Peanuts universe has brought us a lot of beloved characters from Lucy (the girl we all love to hate), Linus (the intelligent and practical one), Sally (the little sister we all wish we had), Snoopy (the cool one we all wish we were), and of course the wonderfully hilarious and fun Charlie Brown who we can all relate to on some level. Of course ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas wouldn’t be nearly as memorable without it’s amazing music. Whether you love more traditional sounding Christmas music such as ‘Christmas Time is Here’ and ‘Hark the Harold Angels Sing’, or music that brings a fresh feel to the season such as the unforgettable piano jazz number ‘Linus and Lucy’ (which you can check out in the video below), this movie will have you humming along to its’ diverse soundtrack long after Christmas is over. Finally, we need to discuss the incredible risks this movie takes. One of these risks is not using music in the style of what was popular at the time. A lot of times movies use catchy, modern sounds in order to easily win over an audience. ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ uses the opposite (and often risker approach) of using genres that weren’t necessarily in the forefront of the American public’s mind in the 60s, and thus makes very unique music that instantly mesmerizes you because it’s so different. Another risk that this movie takes is that it used actual child actors to voice the characters, and because of this adds a larger sense of authenticity to the roles. Shows/movies are notorious for using adults to portray teens and children, (because of legal, financial, and other reasons), so to use a cast that was primarily made up of children was very groundbreaking at the time (and is still VERY uncommon today). Using children actors also added a sincerity and innocence to the roles that really brought these characters to life on screen, and has set a bar that all Charlie Brown specials have had to try to live up to ever since. Because of all of these reasons, we can see why we love Charlie Brown so much, and why we’ll continue to sing, dance, and laugh along to ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ for the next 50 + years.

I like that all of the outfits have pieces that we all either have in our closets, or are easy to find at most stores. Monday Memos: Crossley Hunter Album Review

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ I am so excited to bring you a review for indie rock bandCrossley Hunter album cover Crossley Hunter’ self-titled album, which was produced and engineered by John Wozniak (Marcy Playground) and mixed by Mike Norberg (The Dying Arts) at Mushroom Studio in Toronto, Ontario, and drops August 28th, 2015. A few months ago I first introduced you to this AMAZING band (you can check out that piece here: Monday Memos: Crossley Hunter…the newest band on the rise that YOU need to know about). I was also fortunate enough to interview the band’s vocalist/guitarist Justin Hammond (which you can check out here:Interview with YOUR new fav band Crossley Hunter), which helped us learn about the band’s musical inspirations, how they prepare for live performances, advice the band has for aspiring musicians, and of course, what to expect from this album. Next up we’ll talk a little bit about each song, and then quickly recap why this is a CAN’T MISS album. Ready? Ok, let’s go!

1) Devil Smiling: The first song that we’re going to talk about is the band’s lead single Devil Smiling. I went into greater detail when I spoke about this song during my first piece about the band (located in this post’s intro). After listening to ‘Devil Smiling again, again, I still loved the song’s high energy, catchy lyrics, and overall infectious vibe. This is definitely a great introduction to what you’ll find on the rest of the album.

2) X Rays: If you love songs that you can turn up loud  while driving and completely rock out to, then X Rays is your song. This is another song with unforgettable lyrics that you’ll find yourself singing along to all day. There is also an UNBELIEVABLY amazing guitar solo about 2 minutes into the song that you will be OBSESSED with!

3) Heaven Sent: ‘Heaven Sent’ slows things down just a little bit, and allows you to really get caught up in the raw emotion that the lyrics portray, making it a very easy song to connect with. This is definitely one of those songs that you can listen to over and over again, and never get tired of.

4) Burning Bright: What you’ll love most about this song is the powerful vocals that cause you to be completely mesmerized by this song from start to finish. You have to love a song that instantly demands your attention, and keeps you glued to your headphones.

5) Down and Out: Down and Out is another song that shows that this album is serious about establishing Crossley Hunter as a band with it’s own distinct identity. This is also another great example of Crossley Hunter’s incredible talents as songwriters, and musicians, due to their ability to make a song that you can’t get out of your mind.

6) Bring Me Down: This phenomenal rock anthem is a MUST HAVE for all of your playlists. The song is not only full of energy, but also contains emotionally charged lyrics that are so breathtakingly sincere and heartfelt that you’ll HAVE to play this song on repeat for a few days.

7) Like They Used To: In this song we not only get to see the power of this band’s amazing vocals once again, but also the unique depth of Crossley Hunter’s artistry. It’s so amazing to hear an album that still holds strong more than midway through the album.

8) Stomp Clap Drink: ‘Stomp Clap Drink’ definitely has a bit of a different vibe than the first 7 songs on this album,  songs but stills has that special Crossley Hunter touch that we’ve grown to love. The addition of the album’s producer/engineer John Wozniak as a vocalist on this song is a fun surprise that fans will love. This song definitely shows that Crossley Hunter isn’t afraid to experiment with their sound, and will make you excited to see how they cultivate their sound for future projects.

9) Edge of Night: Just like the song that preceded it, ‘Edge of Night’ shows the band’s artistic growth, due to the inspiration of other genres that is utilized in this song. This definitely gives the band a more wide appeal and will attract fans that may normally fall out of the band’s demographic. A must hear song for music fans everywhere!

10) No Heart: No Heart is a ballad that has incredibly honest, heart wrenching (no pun intended) lyrics that will hit you hard, and definitely make you feel a large range of emotions. It’s one of those rare songs that not only holds your attention, but also makes you feel everything the writer is trying to convey.

11) Aphelion: Just like the first song on an album, the last song is incredibly important, because it definitely sets your thoughts on what the project is as a whole. Aphelion is another emotionally charged song with honest lyrics that hit you right in the heart, and fits in with the standard that Crossley Hunter has set for itself. The sound of the song is very reminiscent of classic 90s grunge, but once again has that special something that instantly makes it identifiable as a Crossley Hunter song. A perfect ending for this album!

To recap, Crossley Hunter’s self-titled album is an album I HIGHLY recommend that you all check out. It really establishes a unique identity for this band, and will instantly capture and keep your attention for the duration of the album. Although the album has a unified vibe that is present throughout the album, there are certainly some songs that will make you excited to see what Crossley Hunter will do with future projects. Lastly, don’t forget that the album drops August 28th, 2014!

Monday Memos: Siri vs Cookie Monster…a battle of the icons

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to discuss something that the whole internet was obsessed with this pat week. If you have an iPhone then you’re probably VERY familiar with the GPS function ‘Siri’. unless you have an iPhone and/or experience with Siri, then you may not realize that Siri is one very sassy GPS system. She’s been known to make jokes at the expense of her owner, and because of this, we have gotten some VERY funny clips for YouTube over the years. So please read on to find out what Siri did this past week that kept the internet buzzing.

It all started last Tuesday (June 30th), when Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul tweeted that we should all ask SIri what zero divided by zero is (if you haven’t done this then go ahead and try…it’s ok I’ll wait…ok let’s move on!). Of course we all tried this, and here is what Siri said: “Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends. How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.” So there you have it, be careful what you ask Siri because she is NOT afraid to completely destroy your self esteem. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Cookie Monster has tweeted his resonse:

Cookie monster response to siri

Well said Cookie Monster…well said! Make sure y’all check out a video of Siri’s answer to the zero question below:

YouTube Wednesday: ToThe9s…the YouTube duo that your subscription box has been waiting for

ToThe9sHello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss an amazing beauty/fashion guru duo that will entertain you and give you awesome advice. If you haven’t heard of the channel ‘ToThe9s’ then you NEED to do that right now (well finish reading this blog post then hop on over there). ToThe9s was created by Vancouver college students Cassie and Ricci, who both are naturals in front of the camera. This duo’s diverse range of beauty/fashion/& DIY videos will have you instantly hooked and constantly checking your subscription box for new videos. So now…let’s get to the videos. Ready? Ok, let’s go!

The first video that we’re going to talk about is ToThe9s’ ‘DIY iPhone/Android cases’ video, which was uploaded on November 19th, 2013 (you can check out this video below). This video shows you that with a little work, you can have as many cool and unique cases as the internet can produce. The video is very detailed so you’ll know exactly what to do, and one of the girls even tells a quick story about how she use to sell these types of cases for kids at her school (which is a great idea to earn a little money for the summer btw). Next up we have ToThe9s’  ‘DIY Ripped Knee Jeans’ video, which was uploaded on April 19, 2014. This is a really cool video because it shows how you can easily transform any jeans into ripped jeans. The video is easy to follow, and help you create your jeans in just a few minutes. You gotta love a DIY video that helps you always stay in style.

Ok, let’s moved on to the ‘BACK TO SCHOOL LOOKBOOK: College Edition’ video, which was uploaded on September 15th, 2014. Even though it’s summer right now, eventually we all have to go to back to school so this is an excellent aid if you’re nervous about starting college or just school in general. The videos shows a lot of really cool looks that you can easily adapt to fit your individual style. This is the perfect way to start school in a fashionable way (before mid terms hit and you live in sweat pants…it happens just wait and see). The final video that we’re going to discuss is ToThe9s’ ‘Simple Summer Outfits’ video, which was uploaded on June 11th, 2015 (you can check out this video below). What I really love about this video is that all of the outfits have a very minimalistic feel, which is perfect if you want to look effortless cool. These looks are also a great way to shake up your summer style so you can grab those extra likes on Instagram (#instafamous !).
