Monday Memos: Top 5 movies to watch this Halloween

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos we’re going to talk about one of the best parts of fall… Halloween movies. Technically we could watch these movies at any point of the year, but there’s just something about fall that makes these movies even better. Now even though there are always new movies that come out during this time of the year, I thought that it would be fun to make a list of 5 Halloween movies that we already know are awesome (and honestly fall would feel empty without). I will say that there won’t be any “horror” or “scary” movies on here because I want to keep the list very family friendly, so you can feel comfortable watching any of these movies with your entire family. So now let’s get to the list! Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

5) Pooh’s Huffalump Halloween Movie:

Pooh's_Heffalump_Halloween_MovieWe’re kicking things off with this movie because honestly who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh. This is a really cute movie that’s story and characters will entertain kids, and give older audiences a kick of nostalgia. The plot has a little suspense but at its’ core is a really sweet story of friendship, and is definitely another classic story in this beloved franchise.

4) Halloweentown:

Now this is a true Disney Channel classic! Every Disney Channel fan knows that once October hits, we’ll get to see p21485_d_v8_aaall 4 Halloweentown movies. I put the 1st one on this list because this is the story that started it all for this franchise. What I love most about this first film is that we are introduced to amazing characters, a really interesting story, but also get a dose of reality because of the characters relationships with each other. I also love that each film switches up the plot and characters, but we still see a lot of the familiar faces that we’ve grown to love.

3) Casper:

This is a great movie to watch during October, because it’s funny, the cast does a great job of bring these characters to life, and it will keep you entertained and engaged from beginning to end. this is definitely a film you’ll want to see again and again, and even though the movie originally came out in 1995 (wow!), it still holds up really well today. On a side note, the music in this movie is AMAZING, especially that ending song sung by Little Richard (just check out the video below)!

1)E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial:

Of course a Halloween list wouldn’t be complete without ET. This is an iconic film that has an amazing cast that bring these awesome characters to life, a great story, cool music, and is a movie that we’ve all seen but will continue to watch again and again. I had a really had time deciding whether this or the next movie that we’re going to talk about should be #1 so that’s why I’ve left it to you to decide. Let me know on the comments below which film you think should be #1. You can also check out one of the most iconic scenes from the movie below, which happens on…Halloween!

1) It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown:

I honestly had a REALLY hard time choosing between It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown & E.T, because they’re both amazing films, and iconicIts-the-great-pumpkin-Charlie-Brown in their own way. So like I said above, I’ll leave it up to y’all to decide which one is your favorite. This is another AMAZING film that has unforgettable characters, and a story that we continue to fall more in love with every year. With the newest Peanuts movie hitting theaters this year (personally I’m so excited to see it), we continue to see that the Peanuts characters never get old, which is why this movie has a very special place in film history.

Monday Memos: Harry Shearer’s Top 5 Best Simpsons Characters

simpsons_harry-shearerHello people of the Internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to talk about one of TV’s longest running shows, ‘The Simpsons’. For more than 25 years, this show has entertained us with hilarious story lines, and unforgettable characters that we love re watching again and again. Sadly as I’m sure y’all have heard, Harry Shearer, one of the voice actors behind several of the characters we love is leaving the show. Even though we will most likely get new voice actors for these roles, it only seems appropriate to honor the work Harry Shearer has done to shape so many of the characters we love on the show. So, we’re going to count down the ‘Top 5 Harry Shearer Simpsons Characters’. Ready? Let’s go!!! 5) Reverend Lovejoy: So let’s kick things off with Reverend Lovejoy. Now who doesn’t love the hilarious situations that this character has helped create. Not only is this character a reverend of the church that our favorite TV family attends, but he’s also a cool character that hangs out at Moe’s bar sometimes, and plays guitar. When you add him in a situation with Homer (who is definitely not what most people picture when they think of a religious guy), then you have the perfect recipe some really funny moments (check out one of these funny moments below).

4) Waylon Smithers:
Now what would Mr. Burns be without Smithers? All great character have their loyal sidekicks, but luckily for us, we also get to see who Smithers really is as an individual. I’ve always thought of Smithers as what Milhouse could be as an adult. Think about it, they’re both submissive, and they follow the lead of a character that can be a little selfish. Even though some people might feel like Smithers gets overshadowed by Mr. Burns, honestly I don’t think we would love Mr. Burns as much if we didn’t have everyone’s favorite sidekick along for the ride (it’s clips like this that show just what a perfect setup character Smithers is).

3) Principal Skinner:
Ok it’s time to talk about everyone’s fav stick in the mud…Principal Skinner. Now why exactly do we love Principal Skinner? Well he’s funny (of course), he’s a HUGE pushover (complete with an overbearing mother who he lives with), and he’s the perfect setup character for Bart to torment. Honestly without Skinner we wouldn’t have such hilarious Bart moments, and then what would we do? Oh and you gotta love when Superintendent Chalmers gets frustrated and yells SkinneeEEEEERR…so funny (check out a clip of this below…you know you wanna!)

2) Mr. Burns:
Now we’re getting to one of our all time favorite characters! No other character has had us feel so many emotions towards them (love, hate, confusion…anyway, moving on…). Mr. Burns has definitely added fun storylines, and sometimes even surprises us by showing that he can be kind, and then he goes back to being the greedy, selfish Scrooge like character that we all love. So whether you love him or love to hate him, Mr. Burns is a character that Springfield would be lost without (check out a Mr. Burns clip below, I promise that it will be excellent…if you don’t like that joke please don’t release the hounds).

1) Ned Flanders:
Now we’ve reached one of the characters that is completely engraved in Simpsons history…Ned Flanders! Without Flanders, we all know that Homer’s character just wouldn’t be the same. Flanders is the neurotic, religious, incredibly strange character that we all are all either thankful we don’t have in our lives, or wish we did live next door to. It’s clear that the Simpsons’ just wouldn’t be the same without this character, and hopefully the next actor who voices Flanders will be able to capture everything that makes this character so iconic (you know we gotta finish this off with a Flanders clip…I think this is probably one of the best Flanders moments ever…enjoy!).
