Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to talk about a recent YouTube video that we can’t stop watching. I know we often talk about how talented, funny, and creative YouTubers are, but sometimes we forget that they are regular people who just share their awesomeness with us. However, sometimes we get videos where our fav YouTubers discuss social issues with us, tell us about their fears/problems, and basically treat us like the BFFs that we all wish we were to them. If you love the popular YouTube channel ‘Angry Grandpa’ and/or videos that will make you cry then please keep reading. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!
A few weeks ago the YouTuber ‘thekidwiththecamera’, who is the son and one of the masterminds behind ‘Angry Grandpa’, uploaded a “prank” video that will melt your heart. If you’ve never seen ‘Angry Grandpa’ before, it’s a YouTube channel where a man named Michael “Pickleboy” Green uploads his father (Charlie Green) reacting to current events, celebrities, and pranks that Pickleboy pulls on him. There are videos of Angry Grandpa pulling pranks on his son as well (disclaimer: The only video on this channel that I’ve seen is the one that I will post below, but some of the other videos do contain language that may be inappropriate/insulting to some people, so keep that in mind if you check them out). Anyway, in this video, Pickleboy, his girlfriend, and his father are looking at a house because Pickleboy has told his dad that he’s interested in buying it. The three go through the house, and after they get Angry Grandpa’s approval, Pickleboy tells him that he’s not buying the house for himself, he’s actually buying it for Angry Grandpa. The reaction to this is priceless and will definitely make you want to go and hug your loved ones (just round them all up in a big group hug…no it’s really not as weird as it sounds…moving on). Before this, Angry Grandpa lived in a trailer home, so that fact just breaks you heart even more (seriously I haven’t cried this much since I saw ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ and now YouTube has me crying again…anyways…). Personally I like seeing videos like this because it’s cool to see that there are so many good things in the world, check out the video below, but have some tissues on standby.
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to discuss the 2015 ‘MTV Movie Awards’. The show was hosted this year by comedian/actress Amy Schumer, who definitely made this year’s award show a memorable one. The show began with a hilarious series of skits which showed Amy as a character in some of the biggest movies of the year. These skits included the movies: ‘Pitch Perfect’, ‘Divergent’, ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, and ‘The Hunger Games’. There were a few more hilarious jokes about the shows on MTV, and the fact that MTV has TV shows now instead of just playing music videos all day. Amy also made some really funny jokes about actor/comedian Kevin Hart’s release of non-stop movies lately, and Hillary Clinton finally giving the announcement we’ve all been waiting for…she’s the newest member of One Direction (just kidding, but wouldn’t that be awesome?!?). So now that we’ve discussed the opening of the show, then let’s move on to the awards. Ready? Ok, let’s go!
Awards (I only choose a few awards to talk about because I didn’t want y’all to be here all day, so y’all can check out the complete list of winners here MTV Movie Award Winners):
Best Action Hero (this award was announced before the show began):
Dylan O’Brien ‘The Maze Runner’
Now even though we don’t really need to explain why ‘The Maze Runner’ deserves this award (even though the competition was VERY stiff) but one reason would definitely be that the film grossed over $340 million worldwide, since its’ release in September of 2014 (not bad for a movie that had a budget of $34 million). With the success that this film would already have because of the success of the book series (which the movies are based off of), and Dylan’s popularity because if his role on Teen Wolf, there was never a doubt that this movie would do extremely well.
Best Female Performance:
Shailene Woodley ‘The Fault in Our Stars’
Ok we all know why Shailene won this one! I mean Hazel and Gus are still playing with our emotions, and wow that movie is such so amazing and intense. This was the first in a LONG line of awards Shailene would win last night, and honestly she definitely deserved this one.
Trailblazer Award:
Shailene Woodley
Honestly right now it’s a good time to be Shailene Woodley. In the past few years she’s been an action hero in the Divergent series, a teenager who’s world gets turned upside down when her mom “leaves” her and secrets start coming out, a love struck teenager battling cancer (thanks again John Green for giving us an ending we’ll never recover from), and so many other memorable characters. It’s obvious that this is just the beginning of Shailene Woodley’s Hollywood takeover, and I don’t know about y’all, but I am SOOOO excited to see what her next project will be.
Generation Award:
Robert Downey Jr.
I think we can all agree that Robert Downey Jr. has such an interesting story due to his tremendous film success in the 80s & early 90s, followed by his comeback in 2003. Most of us probably know him for his work in Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, The Avengers, and so much more! Now of course we also know about his past with drug and alcohol addiction, but I think that the fact that he was able to bounce back and become such a respected actor (because honestly that’s not an easy task to pull off), is a real testament to his talent.
Best Kiss:
Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort ‘The Fault In Our Stars’
Ok honestly I think we would’ve all been mad if anyone else won this award because Gus and Hazel are #relationshipgoals, they just are. This couple made us laugh, cry, question our place in the universe, and learn a lot of really big words, so of course they would win best kiss. I mean they were just too cute, I just can’t y’all…you just gotta love Hazel and Gus.
Best Male Performance:
Bradley Cooper ‘American Sniper’
I think that it’s definitely so much harder for an actor when they have to portray a real person verses a fictional character, so Bradley Cooper certainly showed us his acting chops with this film. In American Sniper Bradley Cooper portrayed U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, and the fact that this film grossed over $540 million worldwide with a $58.8 million budget (which made it the highest-grossing film of 2014 in the United States), shows that audiences just fell in love with Bradley Cooper’s work in this movie. When this film came out EVERYONE wanted to see it, so I don’t think we were surprised that he walked away with this win.
Comedic Genius:
Kevin Hart
With movies like: ‘Think Like A Man’, ‘Ride Along’, ‘About Last Night’, his stand-up act (and honestly so much work that I would have y’all here all day), we are all very familiar with how funny Kevin Hart is. All amazing comics have their moments when they just rule comedy, and right now is definitely the era of Kevin Hart. So prepare because apparently “if he sees his shadow then we get 6 more months of Kevin Hart movies”, thanks for the tip Amy Schumer.
Movie of The Year:
‘The Fault In Our Stars’
Ok if Hazel and Gus are #relationshipgoals, then ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ is definitely #moviegoals, because this film is just so utterly perfect. I mean like I said before, this movie made us feel all of our emotions at once, and then made us question everything about life. I mean I read the book so I knew what was going to happen and this movie still made me cry at the end (I’m still not ready to talk about that ending y’all, it’s just too soon). I think that this movie is definitely the movie of the year, and now we just have to wait and see how John Green’s latest book turned film ‘Paper Towns’ does (I know, I know, we’re all super excited!).
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to do something a little different. Usually we talk about rising beauty, fashion, and music stars, but I thought that today we talk about the website behind these rising stars. Over the past few years, YouTube has grown into a platform for previously unknown (yet very awesome) people to showcase their talents and personalities. I think that we’re all drawn to this website because you can literally find something that you love, no matter what your tastes might be. Whether you love music, fashion, comedy, rants, or very grumpy cats, there is something on YouTube for you. Even though many YouTube stars have found their way into mainstream media (T.V., movies, etc.,), I really think that YouTube will continue to grow, and that 2015 will really be the year that we see YouTube evolve into something truly unstoppable. It’s really cool that there is a platform like this, where you can always find something that you want to watch/listen to, and that you as the viewer truly has command over. Websites like YouTube provide amateur filmmakers with a platform to film, produce, and post their very own videos. Of course there are limits when it comes to posting adult, explicit, or sexual content, which is more suited to websites such as tubev.sex, but apart from that, anything goes. Next, we’re going to talk a little bit about some of our favorite YouTube stars that had big ACCOMPLISHMENTS in 2014, and how this has set the stage for an amazing 2015 in the world of YouTube and the internet in general. So…let’s get started!
Now we can talk about all of the amazing YouTubers that we love (because we’d be here for days), so we’ll talk about a few of the really big YouTube stars from various areas of the website. So let’s start things off with Jenna Marbles! Jenna has been able to use her funny, outgoing personality to reel us in, and make us all completely addicted to her videos (seriously, if you’re having a bad day, click on a Jenna Marbles’ video and you WILL feel better). With over 14 million subscribers and more than 1 billion total channel views, Jenna has one of the most successful channels on YouTube. Last year she expanded her resume into radio, by hosting a new show on the SiriusXM channel ‘Hits 1’. On the show, Jenna can be seen counting down the top 15 most listened to songs on YouTube each week. With a career that is definitely not slowing down, I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.
Another YouTuber that is a roller coaster that only goes up (a little ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ humor there…which is a book, and later a movie, that was also written by a YouTuber, you can check out my review of the movie here: Monday Memos: The Fault In Our Stars), is Bethany Mota. In 2014 Bethany competed on ‘Dancing With The Stars’, and continued her clothing line deal with Aéropostale (and released her 1st perfume and decor line with the company, you can learn all about Bethany by checking out this blog post I wrote about her here: YouTube Wednesday: Bethany Mota). As if this wasn’t enough awesomeness for 1 year, she also showed off her music skills by releasing her first single (she was also the cover girl for Seventeen Magazine’s 1st ever all YouTube edition, which you can read more about in my blog post on it here: YouTube Wednesday: Seventeen Magazine YouTube Edition). With such an awesome 2014, you can only imagine how much Bethany will accomplish in 2015. A musician that will have everyone talking this year is Noah Guntrie. This artist first made his impression on YouTube with the release of his epic jazzy cover of LMFAO’s ‘Sexy & I Know It’. Noah has also performed on numerous shows such as: The Ellen Degeneres Show & Dancing With The Stars. This year Noah joined the cast of Glee, and continued to amaze us with his singing and acting skills. With a role on such an awesome show, it’s only a matter of time before other hit shows search YouTube for their next superstar.
Another big win for YouTube (and the Internet in general) was the release of the AwesomenessTV (which is a YouTube network that is also now a division of DreamWorks Animation, you can check out my blog post about AwesomenessTV here: YouTube Wednesday: AwesomenessTV) film ‘Expelled’. This movie stars YouTube and Vine stars such as: Cameron Dallas, Andrea Russett, Lia Marie Johnson (who you can learn more about in my blog post about her here: YouTube Wednesday: Lia Marie Johnson), Teala Dunn (who I wrote a more detailed blog post about here: YouTube Wednesday: Teala Dunn), and others. AwesomenessTV partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to make the movie available on digital platforms, and was sponsored by ‘The Coca-Cola Co.’ Expelled was also written, produced and directed by Alex Goyette (known as JouleTheif on YouTube). This was a really awesome thing to happen for YouTube, because the movie was released, written, directed, produced (and included actors), who all got their start on YouTube and/or Vine. ‘Expelled’ also reached #1 on ITunes Movies (and other digital platforms), after only 1 day of being released! This really sets the stage for our other favorite YouTube stars to follow this lead (get excited y’all…get REALLY excited!).
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog we are featuring Beauty Guru/Singer Natasha Bure. This young rising YouTube star has only been on YouTube for a short time, but has already proven that she is very knowledgeable about beauty, fashion, and how to capture the undivided attention of an audience. At the young age of 16, Natasha has shown through her videos that she is an intelligent, charismatic young entertainer who will very soon take the internet by storm. It’s easy to see where Natasha’s talent as an entertainer comes from, if you consider the fact that her mother is actress Candace Cameron Bure (who most know as DJ Tanner from the highly popular sitcom Full House). Trust me, once you see one of Natasha’s videos, you will instantly become a fan and will also want to see this young talent blossom into the next YouTube queen.
Natasha uploaded her first YouTube video on August 11th, 2014 Natasha Bure Official Youtube + All About It). This video was an introductory video that tells viewers what to except on the channel in the future. I decided to mention this video not only because it is the first one on the channel, but also because even in a video with such sole content, Natasha is able to show that she is funny, relatable, comfortable on camera, and most importantly, very fun to watch. The next video that we are going to discuss is Natasha’s ‘August Favorites’ video which she uploaded on August 21st, 2014 (August Favorites ). This video covered Natasha’s favorite beauty/skin products, movies, and miscellaneous products of the month. I really loved all of the products that Natasha mentions in her video, and I also loved the mixed between high end and inexpensive items that she had in the video, I definitely think that this makes the video appeal to a wider range of audience. In this video, Natasha also allows her bubbly personality to shine, and certainly will make everyone wish they could be her BFF (also, the mean girls reference was great…Glenn Coco would be so proud). The final video that we are going to discuss in this blog post, is Natasha’s ‘Back To School Style + What’s In My Backpack’ video which was uploaded on August 29th, 2014 (Back To School Style + What’s In My Backpack). I really thought that this video was perfect to showcase because back to school time is now upon us. I absolutely LOVED the outfits that Natasha showcased because they’re cute, stylish, perfect for a wide range of styles, and school/parent approved (got to keep those ATMs…I mean parents happy…just kidding, we love them). I also really loved how Natasha was able to show how back to school style can also extend to school supplies. She was able to show pieces that were both efficient and cute. You gotta love a girl who’s so stylish that she makes you want to even copy her school supplies style (and trust me you will want to).
Didn’t I say see was amazing? As I’m sure you can already tell, Natasha is on her way to become a top YouTuber. I think that what really sets Natasha apart from all of the other beauty/fashion gurus on YouTube, is the fact that she is not only knowledgeable about both topics, but she also has an incredible level of comfort in front of the camera. She also has the ability to quickly gain an audience, in fact in only a month on YouTube (as of September 10th, 2014); she already has 2,436 subscribers and 23,957 total channel views. I was awestruck when I found out about these numbers. I mean, some businesses find it hard to gain YouTube subscribers and comments and might have made use of some of the best sites to buy YouTube comments and views to promote their YouTube page. I don’t think Natasha has had any such service to help her. She also has over 72,000 followers on Instagram (which achieved in about 7 or 8 months), and 1,960 Twitter followers (which she accumulated in about 1 month). I find this truly amazing, especially seeing as some people can find it so hard to even reach this number in their lifetimes. If I’m honest, I thought the only way you could increase your Instagram followers was through a service similar to what Nitreo, (https://nitreo.com) can offer. Or so this is what my friend tells me. I’ve never tried it. This achievement just goes to show that you can reach thousands of followers on your own, but there is no harm in getting additional help along the way. So as you can see, Natasha is quickly becoming the internet’s biggest not so secret talent. I am very excited to see where Natasha goes from here. It will be fun to see just how high this young star rises.
Keep in touch with Natasha!
