Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to discuss an AMAZING band that you will have on repeat all year. If you haven’t heard of the awesome pop punk/Christian rock band Hawk Nelson (which is hard to believe considering their music has charted at #1 on VH1’s ‘Top 20 Countdown’, and they have been nominated for numerous of the music industry’s top awards), then be prepared to become addicted to their music. What’s really cool about this band’s sound is that it has a wide variety of influences, so whether you like pop, punk, or rock, you will find songs that you love! Their new album ‘Diamonds’ dropped today (March 17th), so y’all should all definitely pick up a copy (I promise you won’t be disappointed). So, if you’re not already a Hawk Nelson fan, please read on and prepare to become obsessed.
The first song we’re going to discuss is the band’s song Shaken, (which is off of their 2009 album ‘Live Life Loud’, you can check out the official music video for the song below). This is a really powerful song that will instantly grab your attention and won’t let go until the last note. I love that the lyrics have a really powerful message about a person being “shaken” by something and because of this, wanting to find out how they can make a difference. The music video for this song is also extremely powerful, and will definitely make you wonder what you could do to make a positive difference in the world. The next song that we’re going to talk about is Hawk Nelson’s single ‘Words’ (which is off of their 2013 album Made). I thought that this was a good song for us to talk about next because so many problems that we have in our day-to-day lives is caused by words. As this song explains, words have the power to lift us up, or tear us down. I think that this song is the perfect anthem for all of the bullying that so many people face daily at work, school, home, and even over the internet.
Now we’re going to discuss two of the new songs off of Hawk Nelson’s latest album Diamonds. The first song that we’re going to talk about is the band’s single ‘Drops In The Ocean’ (you can check out the official music video below). This is a really sweet song about someone loving & forgiving you unconditionally. The lyrics in this song really leaves a powerful impact. Whether you think of God, a family member, a friend, or someone else when you hear this song, I definitely think it’s one that we can all relate to. The final song that we’re going to discuss is the title song of the album, ‘Diamonds’. Now even though I LOVE so many of Hawk Nelson’s songs, I have to say that this one is my one of my top favorites. This is the perfect song to kick off your spring/summer playlists with! It is an energetic, uplifting song about God helping you take the negative things in your life, and turning them into positive things. With all of the pressure that we face in our day to day lives, it’s nice sometimes to hear that everything will be ok, and this song will definitely leave you feeling that way. Judging by these two songs, I definitely think that this album is a must have for anyone who loves AMAZING music!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today ‘YouTube Wednesday’, we are going to talk about an amazing new band that I am so excited to share with y’all! This U.K. band has been making a splash ever since their conception in 2009, and has shared the stage with a wide variety of successful and well acclaimed bands. Their songs will have you dancing, crying, and constantly wanting more. Ever since I first heard this band’s music (when they followed me on Twitter…once again thank you Twitter!), I have been absolutely addicted, and now I can’t imagine not constantly listening to this band’s music. Who is this amazing band you may ask? I’m glad you asked. This band is none other than the incredible talented ‘Reachback’. Reachback consists of Ruby Williams as the lead vocalist, Tom McHenry on guitar, Joe Williams on bass, and Craig Chin on drums. Together these four extremely talented musicians make up a band that I believe will have a great and lasting impression on the Pop/Rock music scene very soon. So if you haven’t heard of ‘Reachback’, read on!
Reachback was founded in 2009, and after two years of hard work released their first single off of their debut EP to ‘Absolute Radio’ (one of the 3 National independent Internet radio stations in the U.K. After the release of this single, Reachback was able to perform with famous and well acclaimed acts such as: McFly, Scouting For Girls, Mayday Parade, and Forever The Sickest Kids, just to name a few. After Reachback released its two next singles, they were given the distinction of being named ‘Unsigned Band of the Week’ by Sarah Champion of ‘Absolute Radio’, and caught the attention of Radio 1 (a large British radio station) and Kerrang! Magazine. Also, in September of 2011, the band was given the opportunity by MTV and Extreme of performing two of their songs acoustically at ‘Abby Road Studios’. In 2012, Reachback was nominated for 3 ‘Artist in Music Award’ nominations, a spot on the McFly ‘Keep Calm and Play Louder’ tour, the premiere of their music video for ‘No One Else’ on Kerrang! (a big online rock magazine) and MTV, showcases at MTV and Extreme Music headquarters, a slot on the ‘Red Bull Bedroom Jam Tour’, participating in some of the biggest music festivals in the U.K., participation in a celebrity football (soccer for Americans) tournament, and a performance at the ‘BT London Live Hyde Park Festival’ during the 2012 Olympics (wow I got tired just writing that, I can’t imagine how tired they were living it!). In 2013, Reachback spent the first half of the year touring the U.K and recording their new album (which is set to be released through Spectra Records in 2014!). So now that you know enough about the band to win a trivia contest, let’s get to the music!!!
One cover that Reachback has performed that I really loved was their rendition of ‘Best Song Ever’ by One Direction Best Song Ever – One Direction (Reachback Cover). What I loved most about this version, was that it was less of a “cover’, and more of an individual take on the original song. Reachback’s version has more Pop/Soul influences, which makes this version pleasing to the ears in a different way. Honestly I find myself replaying this version over and over again without growing tired. When I saw that Reachback did a cover of ‘Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty Free Fallin – John Mayer/Tom Petty (Reachback Cover) (and was more recently made popular again by John Mayer), I was extremely intrigued. ‘Free Fallin’ is a very difficult song to cover, because the emotion and notes have to be exactly on point in order to have the impact that is expected of this song. Once I heard Reachback’s version, the only thing that surprised me was that I was surprised by how well they did with it. At this point it shouldn’t surprise me that this band is able to take such a classic song and breathe new life into it. Fans of the original version will certainly not be disappointed. Now this next cover is actually the first cover that I heard from Reachback, however I saved it for last because it’s my favorite. The finial cover that I’m going to discuss is Reachback’s rendition of ‘Cry Me A River’ &’Mirrors’ by the PHENOMINAL Justin Timberlake Justin Timberlake – Cry Me A River & Mirrors (Reachback Cover) . Covering a Justin Timberlake song is certainly not an easy task to pull off, because he is such an amazing vocalist, however I am OBESSED with Reachback’s version of these two JT hits. I love that Reachback infuses its own unique style of Pop/Rock/Soul to make this rendition distinctly different than any other cove you’ll hear. I honestly feel like I could go on and on about how much I love Reachback’s covers, I am just so addicted to them.
However, although Reachback has released some INCREDIBLE covers, they have also released original music that is amazing. On September 22nd, 2011 Reachback released its’ debut single entitled ‘Butterflies’ Butterflies – Reachback, as part of their ‘Wake Up – EP‘. This Pop/Rock track tells the story of unrequited love in such a way, that will make you dance a little bit as you cry into that tub of ice cream (we all do that…right? O..K…moving on.). This track will certainly resonant with Paramore fans, due to this song’s style which is reminiscent of early-Paramore. Reachback released their third single on September 23rd, 2011, in the form of a track called ‘Without You’ Without You – Reachback . ‘Without You’ is a track about lost love, and the feelings of isolation and disbelief that follow a breakup. I really love how this song contains very meaningful and deep lyrics, but delivers the message is an “upbeat” way. The fact that this song is not a slow ballad, makes ‘Without You’ unique and memorable. Reachback released their first official music video to accompany their next single ‘No One Else’ on April 9th, 2012 REACHBACK – No One Else (OFFICIAL VIDEO) (up until this point, all of the singles had only had a photo of the band, and were not actual music videos). ‘No One Else’ is a song about a girl loving one guy so intensely, that no one else could ever take that guy’s place. These feelings become so intense, that the girl in the song still only loves that one particular guy, even after he is gone. I love how powerfully the message of the song is delivered, and the passion that is behind the lead vocalists’ (Ruby Williams) voice. I would definitely suggest that you purchase this song, and the rest of the band’s EP because it WILL have you singing along to every track before you know it.
Well I think that you can infer form this blog post that I am seriously obsessed with this Reachback…and trust me after listening to one of their covers or original songs you will be too. I can see why this band has already made such an impact in the U.K., and I know that it’s only a matter of time before they become a global sensation. I am very excited about what the future holds for Reachback, and I urge you all too go along with them for the ride!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog, I want to introduce you to an amazing up and coming pop-punk band called ‘Late Nite Reading’. I recently discovered this band on Twitter (thank you Twitter!), and I have to say that they really impressed me because of their superb artistry, musicianship, and catchy songs. I am really excited to share this band’s music with you all, and I know that you will quickly become as obsessed with this band as I am. I apologize before hand, because you will definitely make a lot of purchases on ITunes after reading this blog (but on the upside, you will also have a lot of awesome music to add to your collection, so the end justifies the means). So are you ready? Ok, let’s begin then!!!
This band originated in the summer of 2009 in Indiana when former band mates Brady Szuhaj (a bassist), and Dalton Wixom ( a vocalist/rhythm guitarist) decided to start a new project together. After several member rotations, the final missing pieces were finally put together when Drew Cottrell ( a drummer), and Clayton Collins ( a lead guitarist)were added to the band. With the missing members in place, Late Nite Reading began their journey towards world domination. The band released their first EP ‘Cycles and Sounds’ in June of 2010, and has a very 90s punk feel to it. Their songs are well crafted, interesting, and definitely could have been heard on the radio in the 90’s to early 2000s. In the band’s debut, you can hear influences of great bands such as Semisonic, Green Day, and bands similar to these. The influence on the record’s overall sound comes full circle with the bands track ‘Nostalgia’, which includes lyrics about the band “missing the 90s”. Upon hearing this EP, I couldn’t help but applaud Late Nite Reading for paying homage to the bands that obliviously had a huge impact on their music. It was a truly a memorable debut.
The band’s next EP ‘Dedicated to Deadlines’ (which was released in November of 2011)once again shows not only how amazing Late Night Reading is, but also their meticulous attention to every detail that goes into the production of their music. With this EP, you really saw the band’s growth as musicians. The overall sound of the album was very modern and fun, the only thing that I wish was different about the record is the length…it definitely should have been a full length album. Every track on this album is amazing, and the entire EP leaves you in great anticipation for more music. Obviously Late Nite Reading’s fans agreed, because they have given the album amazing reviews on ITunes (with every review giving the EP 5 out of 5 stars as of January 9th, 2014.
The band’s newest EP ‘Walls’ was released in April of 2013, has to be my favorite EP from the band this far. This record definitely shows that Late Nite Reading has finally perfected their sound. This album combines the vintage punk sound of their debut EP, with the modern vibe that dominated their second EP. The marriage of these two distinct sounds leads to a very unique product, which only solidifies Late Nite Reading’s bright future in music. I love how this band is continually growing as artist, but have never lost sight of their music roots and influences.
The band has performed and toured with numerous highly successful bands, such as All Time Low, The Summer Set, and Taking Back Sunday. Late Nite Reading has also released numerous covers, which are so well reconstructed that you would never know that these tracks are covers. Their first cover (a song entitled ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster the People) was released in May of 2012. This cover of the popular track is very different from the original, but is still an amazing track; which further shows the artistic depth of Late Nite Reading. The band has also covered ‘One Thing’ by British boy band superstars One Direction, ‘Here’s to Never Growing Up’ by Avril Lavigne (this cover also featured fellow pop-punk band 7 Minutes in Heaven) and ‘Die Young’ by Ke$ha. My favorite cover that they’ve done is their Die Young cover, due to the way the band took this pop/rap track, and reshaped it into an amazing rock song. Late Nite Reading’s ingenuity takes center stage with this cover, and demonstrates that they have a strong enough sense of artistry and individuality to be a marketable band.
Upon exploring this band’s repertoire, I found that Late Nite Reading’s biggest strength is their ability to quickly grow and evolve as artists, their meticulous sense of detail in their work, and their amazing skills as musicians (seriously these guys are astonishing with their instruments). I would certainly recommend that everyone check out Late Nite Reading now, because very soon you will hear them blowing up your local radio airways. I anticipate great things for this band in the future, and am anxiously anticipating their next project.
Keep in touch with the band!!!

Hello people of the internet!!! For today’s YouTube Wednesday blog, I will be introducing you too another AMAZING band (you may now clap….ok now shall we begin? Great!). I found out about this band after one of their members followed me on Twitter, and I have to say that I have been completely obsessed with their debut cd (which they are giving away for free on their website…I know how amazing is that)! So please allow me a few minute to tell y’all why Rivers Monroe will soon add a permanent spot on your IPod’s playlist.
According to their Facebook fan page, Rivers Monroe was founded in Philadelphia when friends Mat Rivers (a pianist/vocalist) and Mike Monroe (a guitarist/vocalist) decided to join forces and begin a band. The two musicians later added a guitarist named Doc, a bassist named Kirby, and a drummer named Dan. Once the lineup was completed, the future of this amazing band was set. Over the years, Rivers Monroe has been able to gather a loyal fanbase, which has led them to perform a national tour, which was sponsored by Coca-Cola, Sunoco, Cerwin-Vega, Motel 6, and other businesses. The band currently has 7,688 likes on Facebook, 23,364 followers on Twitter, 620 followers on Instagram, and 307 subscribers on YouTube. Needless to say, these guys have certainly used social media to spread the word about their music, which shows that they are not only great musicians, but also have a firm grip on the “business” end of the music business.
Rivers Monroe has also had the experience of playing shows with many established bands, such as: Paramore, All Time Low, Fun, Incubus, Phoenix, The Wonder Years, Passion Pit, Allstar Weekend, and numerous others. Just in case you’re not familiar with any of these bands (and if you are not, your homework this week is too search all of these bands on YouTube…after you read this blog and check out Rivers Monroe of course), many of these bands have had platinum selling albums, have won Grammys, and have been on the Vans Warped Tour. So needless to say, Rivers Monroe has performed alongside a very impressive group of musicians, this definitely speaks volumes towards the band’s talent and fan base. Now if you thought that this band couldn’t get any more impressive, prepare to have your mind blown away one more time, Rivers Monroe has also been a fixture on TV. They have been featured on the Verses Network, NASCAR Network, FOX Sports TV, Speed TV, and their music has been featured in the 2011 and 2014 NASCAR video games. I honestly don’t know how this band finds the time to be this awesome…but yet they do!
Now that you know enough information about Rivers Monroe to win a trivia contest, allow me to introduce you to the amazing music that this band makes. The overall sound of Rivers Monroe is pop-punk, with definite stylistic influences from amazing alternative rock bands such as Fall-Out Boy and We The Kings. Their music is very high energy, and perfect for spring break/summer road trips, or for just dancing around your house. Although the majority of their music is very high energy and fun, Rivers Monroe also knows how to write very moving ballads. This allows them to tap into another aspect of their musicianship, and the result is a small hint of blue-eyed soul infused rock, that demonstrates that these guys can not only rock, but also know how to write lyrics that will cut deep into your soul. I understand that we have now become a singles centric society (meaning that we have the ability to only buy single tracks off of an album), I personally still love having the ability to buy and enjoy an album in its’ entirely. With Rivers Monroe’s album, I am able to play the album from beginning to end, and I never have to skip a track due to boredom. Trust me, finding an album that you truly enjoy from beginning to end is rare these days, so when you find a band that can do this, you know that you’ve truly found a band that will one day completely control the radio airways. I HIGHLY recommend this band for music lovers everywhere, because even if you think that Rivers Monroe’s music will not be something you like, you will soon find yourself addicted to their catchy beats and infectious hooks.
