YouTube Wednesday: 2015 The Year of YouTube

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to do something a little different. Usually we talk about rising beauty, fashion, and music stars, but I thought that today we talk about the website behind these rising stars. Over the past few years, YouTube has grown into a platform for previously unknown (yet very awesome) people to showcase their talents and personalities. I think that we’re all drawn to this website because you can literally find something that you love, no matter what your tastes might be. Whether you love music, fashion, comedy, rants, or very grumpy cats, there is something on YouTube for you. Even though many YouTube stars have found their way into mainstream media (T.V., movies, etc.,), I really think that YouTube will continue to grow, and that 2015 will really be the year that we see YouTube evolve into something truly unstoppable. It’s really cool that there is a platform like this, where you can always find something that you want to watch/listen to, and that you as the viewer truly has command over. Next, we’re going to talk a little bit about some our favorite YouTube stars that had big ACCOMPLISHMENTS in 2014, and how this has set the stage for an amazing 2015 in the world of YouTube and the internet in general. So…let’s get started!

Now we can talk about all of the amazing YouTubers that we love (because we’d be here for days), so we’ll talk about a few of the really big YouTube stars from various areas of the website. So let’s start things off with Jenna Marbles! Jenna has been able to use her funny, outgoing personality to reel us in, and make us all completely addicted to her videos (seriously, if you’re having a bad day, click on a Jenna Marbles’ video and you WILL feel better). With over 14 million subscribers and more than 1 billion total channel views, Jenna has one of the most successful channels on YouTube. Last year she expanded her resume into radio, by hosting a new show on the SiriusXM channel ‘Hits 1’. On the show, Jenna can be seen counting down the top 15 most listened to songs on YouTube each week. With a career that is definitely not slowing down, I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.

Another YouTuber that is a roller coaster that only goes up (a little ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ humor there…which is a book, and later a movie, that was also written by a YouTuber, you can check out my review of the movie here: Monday Memos: The Fault In Our Stars), is Bethany Mota. In 2014 Bethany competed on ‘Dancing With The Stars’, and continued her clothing line deal with Aéropostale (and released her 1st perfume and decor line with the company, you can learn all about Bethany by checking out this blog post I wrote about her here: YouTube Wednesday: Bethany Mota). As if this wasn’t enough awesomeness for 1 year, she also showed off her music skills by releasing her first single (she was also the cover girl for Seventeen Magazine’s 1st ever all YouTube edition, which you can read more about in my blog post on it here: YouTube Wednesday: Seventeen Magazine YouTube Edition). With such an awesome 2014, you can only imagine how much Bethany will accomplish in 2015. A musician that will have everyone talking this year is Noah Guntrie. This artist first made his impression on YouTube with the release of his epic jazzy cover of LMFAO’s ‘Sexy & I Know It’. Noah has also performed on numerous shows such as: The Ellen Degeneres Show & Dancing With The Stars. This year Noah joined the cast of Glee, and continued to amaze us with his singing and acting skills. With a role on such an awesome show, it’s only a matter of time before other hit shows search YouTube for their next superstar.

Another big win for YouTube (and the Internet in general) was the release of the AwesomenessTV (which is a YouTube network that is also now a division of DreamWorks Animation, you can check out my blog post about AwesomenessTV here: YouTube Wednesday: AwesomenessTV) film ‘Expelled’. This movie stars YouTube and Vine stars such as: Cameron Dallas, Andrea Russett, Lia Marie Johnson (who you can learn more about in my blog post about her here: YouTube Wednesday: Lia Marie Johnson), Teala Dunn (who I wrote a more detailed blog post about here: YouTube Wednesday: Teala Dunn), and others. AwesomenessTV partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to make the movie available on digital platforms, and was sponsored by ‘The Coca-Cola Co.’ Expelled was also written, produced and directed by Alex Goyette (known as JouleTheif on YouTube). This was a really awesome thing to happen for YouTube, because the movie was released, written, directed, produced (and included actors), who all got their start on YouTube and/or Vine. ‘Expelled’ also reached #1 on ITunes Movies (and other digital platforms), after only 1 day of being released! This really sets the stage for our other favorite YouTube stars to follow this lead (get excited y’all…get REALLY excited!).

YouTube Wednesday: Seventeen Magazine YouTube Edition!!!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to discuss Seventeen Magazine’s newest issue. What makes this particular month so special? Because it’s the magazine’s first ‘YouTube Edition’!!! Yes, our favorite YouTubers are coming off screen to take center stage in one of the most popular magazines among pre-teens, teenagers, and young adults. I feel that this is an extremely smart move for Seventeen Magazine to take, because their audience is the same as the audience that the YouTubers featured in the magazine have. I definitely see other popular magazines following this lead, which means that we will get to see a lot more of our fav YouTube stars on our fav magazines (yay)! Now, I promise that I will try not to ruin the magazine by giving away to many details, for any of you who haven’t bought/read it in the store yet (no of course we don’t do that…why would we…moving on). Ok, let’s dive in!

First off, let’s discuss some of our fav stars that are included in the magazine. I was really excited to see that Shane Dawson did an advice segment in the magazine, because honestly you know that his advice is going to be blunt, helpful, and VERY hilarious. I think that he was the perfect choice for this column, because he has always given serious (and not so serious) advice on his channel. There were also segments that included Joey Graceffa, Tyler Oakley, Zoella, Marcus Butler, and MANY more. I also liked that the magazine features up and coming YouTubers who are ones to watch out for (and they may also appear on the blog, so stay tuned!). Although a lot of really great YouTubers were featured in the magazine, we have to spend some time talking about the cover star, Bethany Mota (you can find a blog post about her here YouTube Wednesday: Bethany Mota, the beauty guru who proved that positivity is always in style | celindareyesblog). In the interview that Seventeen did with Bethany covered topics such as: what it’s like to grow up on YouTube, how she’s dealt with bullying, the importance of finding and pursuing something that you love, and how to succeed in anything you do (I mean obviously Bethany is winning at life, so I am definitely taking her advice).

I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be rereading this edition of Seventeen over and over again (I’ve already taken a look at it, and it is AMAZING… just in case you didn’t know). With the partnership of popular YouTube channels with major TV Networks: AwesomnessTV, and TheFineBros ( who both partnered with Nickelodeon), Epic Meal Time (who partnered with FYI, which is a new TV channel related to A&E), and all of the YouTube/other internet themed categories that were included in this year’s broadcast of the Teen Choice Awards this has been a BIG year for YouTube, and the internet in general (even though some YouTube categories have been included before, I think that this is the first year that any winners were announced on-air…btw you can find a recap of the show here Monday Memos: 2014 Teen Choice Awards Recap!!! | celindareyesblog). Other YouTubers such as Tyler Oakley and iJustine have also done hosting, and correspondence work for numerous entertainment news shows. Additionally, popular YouTubers Shane Dawson, Zoella, and PointlessBlog have/are releasing books, and Shane Dawson also runs a popular podcast, and is in the process of releasing a movie and a TV show in the future. Also, ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ author John Green (you can find a review of the book & movie here: Monday Memos: The Fault In Our Stars…a star crossed love story with no faults | celindareyesblog) also initially gained fame as a popular YouTuber and one of the founders of VidCon (a popular YouTube convention where fans can meet their favorite online stars). Honestly the list goes on and on, but in short…the internet and its’ stars are quickly taking over the entertainment business that extends offline. I am really excited to see how the entertainment industry will change, as a new generation of stars are continued to be ushered in.

YouTube Wednesday: Bethany Mota, the beauty guru who proved that positivity is always in style

Hello people of the internet! How are you doing today? If the answer is good, then I have good news for you…if the answer is bad, then I have better news for you. What is this amazing, life-changing news? Well it’s time for another ‘YouTube Wednesday’ blog of course! What makes this blog extra special is that our subject today is YouTube beauty/fashion guru Bethany Mota!!! If you don’t know why Bethany makes this blog extra special, then you definitely need to continue reading. Bethany is not only a YouTube superstar, but she is also a fashion designer, and has an insanely large following on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. At this point if you’re thinking. “Well I’m not really in to fashion, beauty, etc., so why should I keep reading?” well I will tell you why. Besides the fact that you love reading these blogs, Bethany is also an extremely funny girl, whose positivity and natural charisma on camera has caused her fans to fall deeper and deeper in love with her. So if you want to join the Motavator family (a nickname that Bethany has given her supporters), then keep reading and fall under the spell of Bethany Mota.

Bethany Noel Mota was born on November 7th, 1995 in California. She has 1 sibling named Britney Mota Wiley , who is also a beauty/style guru on YouTube (here’s her channel Briddy Nicole). Bethany has stated in her ‘Draw My Life’ video, that she was extremely shy as a child, and was also a tomboy growing up. She has also revealed that she dealt with extreme cyberbullying in middle school, which caused her to have anxiety attacks and become very depressed. In order to get out of her depression, Bethany began watching YouTube videos (you know where this is heading), and soon discovered the ‘Beauty Community” on YouTube. Bethany was entranced by the videos, and began to grow an interest in makeup and beauty. On June 12th, 2009 Bethany uploaded her first YouTube video (Yay!!!), which was a Mac and Sephora makeup haul (here’s the link First Video 🙂 Mac and Sephora Haul.)! Bethany continued to regularly upload videos, and quickly became a top beauty guru on the video sharing website.

Since her YouTube beginnings, Bethany has acquired such a large fanbase, that she has been partnered with YouTube, worked with numerous major corporations and publications, such as; Seventeen Magazine, Teen Vogue, and JC Penny. Bethany made her Seventeen Magazine debut in the April 2011 edition, as a ‘Hair Smartie’ (a category in the magazine and on the publication’s website, in which hair gurus demonstrated how to achieve a particular hair style and/or look). Bethany has been featured numerous times on Teen Vogue’s website, and was 1 of 5 YouTubers that JC Penny flew to one of their Texas locations in 2011, with the purpose of making a haul video ( a video in which an individual buys cosmetics, clothing, shoes, etc. from numerous stores, and then films a video where they talk about what they bought, and possibly how they would style the item(s) ), for the chains website. When the “haulers” arrived at the JC Penny, they were given a $1,000 gift card from the store in order to shop in the store’s back to school section, and then make the video (hey it’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it right!?). Bethany has also appeared on two popular shows (‘IMO’, a teen talk show and ‘Make Me Over’, a make-over show in which Bethany was the 1st season host) on the successful YouTube Channel ‘AwesomnessTV’ (which as of January 23, 2014 has 1,122,140 subscribers and 251,417,929 viewers here’s the link AwesomnessTV).

In November of 2013, Bethany announced that she had teamed up with the popular clothing chain ‘Aéropostale’, to produce Bethany’s first clothing line entitled ‘The Bethany Mota Collection’ (here’s the link for the promo video The Bethany Mota Collection Exclusively at Aéropostale – YouTube) . Bethany and Aéropostale promoted the line’s launch by asking fans to tweet ‘#MoreMota’, for the opportunity to see a few of the line’s designs ahead of the official release date. On December 8th, 2013 the line launched, and Bethany made an appearance at one lucky store location, in order to do a meet-and-greet with fans! Bethany currently has come a long way from the shy, quiet young girl in her first video. In 4 short years, Bethany has acquired 4,899,125 subscribers and 377,896,389 views on YouTube (which is more than famous artists like Lady Gaga, and popular publications such as Vogue and Seventeen Magazine), 1,176,140 Twitter followers, 584,000 “likes” on Facebook, and 2,292,255 on Instagram.

With such a detailed resume at the tender age of 18, Bethany (or Beth/Bethers as she often refers to herself), is definitely on the road for a long fashion career. She was able to successfully build a large, dedicated fanbase using only her passion for fashion, bubbly personality, and video camera, which has become the foundation for a fashion empire for the California teenager. I can definitely see Bethany expanding into cosmetics, beauty accessories, and even trying her hand at acting/hosting, honestly the sky is truly the limit for this rising star. So if you’re not already obsessed with Bethany Mota, you will be after watching any of her captivating video. I would definitely suggest that you become familiar with her, because Bethany Mota is a name that you will be hearing for years to come. I can certainly say that I am proud to be a Motavator, and you will be too!
