YouTube Wednesday: Sloan…The Female Otaku we all need in our lives

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss an AMAZING YouTuber who you will all be super obsessed with. Are you an otaku? Do you love anime? Are you always looking for interesting new YouTubers to obsess over? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you’re probably already subscribed to Sloan The Female Otaku, but just in case you’re not, please read on to find out exactly why you NEED to subscribe to her right now! Also, she’s a part of a very interesting podcast called ‘The Kotatsu’ with some other awesome YouTubers, so definitely go check that out too. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The first video we’re going to talk about is Sloan’s ‘Top 10 Summer + Fall 2014′ video, which was released on November 18th, 2014. This is definitely a good “intro to Sloan” video because you instantly become mesmerized by her fun, quirky personality. Sloan’ quick wit will reel you in, but her deep knowledge of anime will definitely keep youhooked. Next up we have her ‘Ore Monogatari!! Epiosde 24 Finale Review’, which was uploaded on September 23rd, 2015. I chose this particular episode review because I’m a HUGE fan of this show (seriously watch this show, it will make your feels have all the feels!). Honestly as much as we would all love to sit down and listen to an hour long discuss about all of the great anime out there, who really has time for that. Right? Right! Well fear not people of the internet, Sloan has you covered! Her episodes reviews are detailed enough to make you want to watch the anime she’s reviewing, but concise enough to fit into your busy schedule of binging Netflix…I mean handling important adult business. Yeah, let’s go with that!

Moving on, let’s discuss Sloan’s ‘Summer 2016 AMV’, which was uploaded on September 20th, 2016. Let me just say that I LOVED this video! It was such a cool idea to do an AMV as sort of seasonal wrap up video. 5 smiley faces on this one Sloan! I feel as if the art of the AMV got lost somewhere around 2010 and I for one miss it. Bravo Sloan! Seriously though that AMV is really well done so y’all should check it out! Lastly we’re going to talk about her ‘I MET joey the anime man (and Akidearest)’ video  which was uploaded on February 15th, 2017 and is apart of her ‘Sloan Vlogs’ series. Now let’s just go ahead and admit it, we love it when YouTubers fangirl (or fanboy) over other YouTubers! It was so much fun to see Sloan freak out over possibly missing a chance to meet one of her favorite YouTubers, and then have a fangirl attack when she finally finds him. This video takes you on a true journey, and you’ll love every minute of it! It’s so cool to see that deep down Sloan is just abnormal crazy fangirl like the rest of us.

YouTube Wednesday: The 1st DuckTales trailer drops…woo-oo!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going on a nostalgia train trip. I’m sure by now you’ve all heard about the DuckTales revival (if you haven’t check out my blog post about it here: ). At this point most of us have seen the promo pics and have heard the cast sing the iconic theme song. But now Disney has FINALLY given us the one thing we’ve been craving ever since we first heard about this revival. Are you ready!?! No! It’s not the announcement of a Recess revival (although fingers crossed for that). No, it’s not a Kim Possible revival…stop guessing already! We have finally gotten a DuckTales trailer! Excited! I knew you would be! So if you want to learn all about this AMAZING trailer, then please read on. Ready! Ok, let’s go!!!

The animation is definitely different than what fans of the original series are used to, but if you’re a fan of the the animation on other recent Disney XD shows such as ‘Wander Over Yonder’ or ‘Gravity Falls’ then you’ll love this stylistic choice. Another departure from the original series comes in the form of the voice acting (we’ll sort of). Scrooge McDuck’s nephews Huey(played by Danny Pudi), Dewy (played by Ben Schwartz) and Louie (played by Bobby Moynihan) definitely sound less childlike, and now have very distinct voices. They have also lost the famous Donald Duck lisp which further adds to their unique personalities. Two characters that do sound very similar to their predecessors are LaunchPad McQuack (played by Beck Bennett, most known for his work on Saturday Night Live) & Scrooge McDuck (played by David Tennant, most known for his work as Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who & Barry Crouch Jr in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire). LaunchPad McQuack sounds very similar to the voice of our childhood & Scrooge sounds so identical it’s scary (and by scary I mean completely AMAZING!!!). We’re also going to get to hear a voice that we’ve heard many times before due to the fact that Donald Duck will be played by Tony Anselmo (who has been Donald’s official voic since 1985). Earlier this month the show was officially renewed by Disney XD for a 2nd season so the channel obviously had high hopes for this reboot. Personally I’m super excited to see what the new cast & crew can bring to this iconic show. What do you think people of the internet? One thing is for sure, whether this show is a hit or miss, it will definitely take us another 27 years to get that theme song out of our heads again (DuckTales! Woo-oo!).

Monday Memos: Interview with singer/songwriter/actress/fashion designer Lisa Loeb

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ I have the honor of sharing an interview I recently did with two-time Grammy nomineelisa loeb interview photo Lisa Loeb! You may know Lisa from her platinum-selling hit #1 single ‘Stay (I Missed You), her various voice-over roles in shows such as ‘Spider-Man: The New Animated Series’, ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’, ‘Doc McStuffins’, etc., her eyewear line, or the various other projects that Lisa has had over the past two decades. In this interview we discuss Lisa’s music, eyewear line, her charitable foundation ‘Camp Lisa’, her musical influences, and so much more! Also please keep an eye out for Lisa’s singles ‘3,2,1 Let Go’, and ‘The Disappointing Pancake’, which will be released on vinyl via Blacktop Records on July 8th, 2016. You can also pick up the records at any of Lisa’s upcoming shows:

June 21 – Wolf Trap Theater-in-the-Woods, Virginia

June 22 – Sundown Music Series, Haddon Heights, NJ

July 10 – Oakville Children’s Festival, Ontario

July 11 – Stratford Masonic Concert Hall – Stratford, Ontario (SOLD OUT)

July 12 – Stratford Masonic Concert Hall – Stratford, Ontario

July 13 – Adelaide Hall – Toronto, Ontario

So now let’s get to the interview! Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

Celinda: First of all I would like to thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview. Personally I am such a huge fan of your music, and I know that my readers are excited to hear about all of your new projects. Since we are on the topic of music, what/who would you say originally sparked your interest in music? Also, which bands/artists have influenced your music that would surprise your fans?

Lisa: That’s such a huge question. There are so many musicians and performers who inspired me. My family, the music around me growing up, my friends’ taste in music, the music I was played at school and the music we sang and played at school, music I learned in piano and later guitar lessons, music on the radio.  Wow, so much music all around me.  I usually think of The Police as the band that made me want to play guitar in a band and write music.  I also loved David Bowie’s dramatic singing, writing, storytelling, and all-around aura.  I’m hugely influenced by Led Zeppelin, Olivia Newton John, The Cure, and soft pop from the 1970’s like Bread.

Celinda: I can definitely hear all of those influences in your music. So, how does it feel that Stay (I Missed You) is still such a recognizable and beloved song 22 years after its’ initial release?

Lisa: I love it.  I think it’s incredible that people connect with me and my song so many years later.  People really have sweet nostalgia as well as a current identification with the song. I think that’s why it’s still so powerful so many years later.

Celinda: Now let’s move on to the live action acting you’ve done on television and for films. Did you always want to foray into acting or was it something that you grew to love later in life?

Lisa: I always wanted to be actor, maybe even before I wanted to be a musician. I like the idea of being able to try on different characters and jobs and personalities.  (That just sounded crazy.) I think it’s amazing to put yourself in another person’s shoes.  I loved doing theater in school and college and always studied theater during the summers.  I still use my acting training a lot during live performances and interpreting my own songs night after night. I still hope to spend more time training and doing more acting soon!

Celinda: That’s so exciting, I know I speak for all of your fans when I say we’re excited to see which acting projects you might take on in the future! Along with your live action acting, you’ve also voiced numerous characters on various videos games and television shows such as: ‘Spider-Man: The New Animated Series’, ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’, ‘Doc McStuffins’, etc., do you feel that your experience as a recording artist has helped you become more comfortable and confident as a voice actress?

Lisa: My acting experience coupled with recording music in the studio has really come together for voice acting.  It’s a place I feel really comfortable and love the collaboration of working with producers, writers, directors, and engineers to come up with the right sound for the animated shows, commercials, and other voice work I do.

Celinda: I would like to take a moment to mention that I love your eyewear line; all of the pieces are gorgeous and very fashionable. Is there a story behind the creation of your eyewear line, or is it something you’ve always wanted to do?

Lisa: The eyewear line is a dream come true.  I’m a huge fan of glasses and finding the perfect pair for myself!  I think glasses can add so much to a person’s face and can help express how a person sees life and how they relate to others.  I love that my eyewear line can help women look beautiful, stylish, flirty, classic, and confident. People look to me for that and now I can finally help people.  Literally, fans and people who like my glasses and my look stop me on the street to talk about glasses. I thought it was time for me to get more involved.  We have lots of tortoiseshell, pops of color, shapes and sizes for different faces and skin tones.  I love when people tell me that they wear their glasses because I wear my glasses.

Celinda: All of the pieces are amazing; you definitely have a great eye for fashion. Moving on, I would like to firstly congratulate you for all of the accomplishments that your organization ‘The Camp Lisa Foundation’ has achieved; it is truly inspiring to see artists give back. What would you say has been the most rewarding part of ‘Camp Lisa’, and what do you hope the foundation will accomplish in the future?

Lisa: It’s amazingly rewarding knowing that kids are going to have a summer camp experience, helping them build their confidence and character as well as connecting them to summer fun. I hope the foundation can continue to send more kids to summer camp! Buying my Camp Lisa record, my “Wake Up!” Blend coffee from https://www.coffeefool.com/collections/charity-coffees and making direct donations to me through The Camp Lisa Foundation through www.LisaLoeb.com are great ways that you can help!

Celinda: Your foundation’s mission is truly beautiful and will definitely continue making a positive impact on numerous children. So I read on your website that you earned a degree in comparative literature from Brown University; did you always aspire to become an author? Also, what inspired you to write children’s books?

Lisa: I really should have studied theater, music, psychology- all areas that interested me the most, but at the time I felt I needed a liberal arts major, and that was it.  I’ve always enjoyed interpretation, and meta-thinking, and overthinking, so it seemed like a good major. I think it’s important to spend quiet connected time with kids, away from the TV and the computers and phones.  These illustrated books help a parent/caregiver/teacher do just that.  These books are fun to explore and read and re-read. I made two kids’ books of lyrics, activities, and recipes for kids ‘Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs’ and ‘Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ & Shakin’: The Air Band Song and Other Toe-tapping Tunes’ and I think a lot of those songs would make really great board books one song at a time.  I have a children’s book up my sleeve now too!

Celinda: That’s so interesting! I know we’re all super excited to read and hear this new book! Moving back to the topic of music for a second, your singles ‘3,2,1 Let Go’ and ‘The Disappointing Pancake’ will be released on 7inch vinyl on July 8th, 2016 in Canada via Blacktop Records. Personally I love the throwback feel of vinyl that you just can’t get with digital or even cd releases, but what inspired you to release these singles on vinyl?

Lisa: “3,2,1 Let Go!” is the kind of song you want to hear on vinyl, and since there’s only one song on each side, you really can focus on listening over and over to each song, since once you hear the songs, you’ll want to listen over and over. ; )  “The Disappointing Pancake” is one of my most popular songs, taken from both the ‘Camp Lisa’ record and the ‘Silly Sing-Along’ book, so I thought I’d highlight it here on this special release.   Plus, even though it was originally written for kids, I think grownups enjoy hearing it- a story that’s different from your lost love song.

Celinda: Thank you again Lisa for taking the time to speak with me today, it was truly an honor. Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to your fans who are reading this interview?

Lisa: I can’t wait to come to Canada!  It’s been really too long since I’ve been there.  Yay!  Yay for us.  I can’t wait to see you!

YouTube Wednesday: Ned is back with his survival guide to life

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss another show that is getting a devon's life survival guide yt wedreboot. Now I know you’re probably thinking that the world has gone reboot and spin-off crazy, but this show is spinning this idea in a different way. If you watched Nickelodeon from 2004-2007, then I know that you remember the show ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’. This show starred Devon Werkheiser as a middle school kid named Ned Bigby, who gave us tips on how to survive all of the issues and problems that everyone faces in middle school. The show was very funny and entertaining, but honestly did give a lot of good advice that you could actually apply to everyday life. Unfortunately ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’ ended with the three main characters graduating to high school, and thus left us to face high school, college, and life on our own. Luckily due to fan demand, Devon is now back in a new YouTube series that will help is all learn how to survive life. Three episodes of the show are already up, and they are AMAZING! so if you’re ready let’s talk about this incredible new series. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

So far ‘Devon’s Life Survival Guide’ has covered the topics of: fame, working hard, and choosing your own destiny in life. The show airs new episodes on YouTube every Monday, and will definitely continue to cover topics that everyone deals with. Also, each episode opens with a very interesting quote that is related to the topic of the video. What I really love about ‘Devon’s Life Survival Guide’ is that the topics that it discusses are aspects of life that we all deal with or will deal with in the future. Whether you’re in school or not, we’re all trying to understand the things life throws at us and make the best of it. It’s cool to see someone who helped so many of us as kids continue to help us now that we’ve entered the “real world”.

Monday Memos: Gilmore Girls Reboot

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to discuss one of the most exciting imageannouncements of 2016 so far (seriously it’s AMAZING!!!). Yes, we’re talking about the announcement of the ‘Gilmore Girls’ reboot. For 7 seasons ‘Gilmore Girls’ entertained us with the show’s witty writing, interesting characters, and overall charm. Now that we have the opportunity to go back to Stars Hallow and see how all of our fav characters are doing, I know we have so many questions. So let’s all meet at Luke’s Diner and discuss the burning questions we all want answered. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

Everybody here? Ok then let’s begin!

3) What is Rory’s relationship status and what career path did she take?

Throughout the duration of the show we saw Rory with three boyfriends who were very different people, and helped Rory grow into the person she would become. When we last left Rory she rejected Logan’s (her college boyfriend) proposal and was single and ready to focus on her career. It will be interesting to see what Rory’s relationship status is now, and what career she chose. With her intellect the sky was truly the limit, so I know that we’re all anxious to see where they’ll go with her character.

2) How the show will honor Richard’s memory after Edward Herrmann’s passing, and how Emily handles this?

I know that we will all miss seeing Edward Herrmann on our screens because of his unbelievable talent, and the amazing way he was able to help mold Richard into a character that we all still love and respect. Emily (Richard’s wife for anyone who doesn’t know) was always a very complex, and often confusing character to understand, so I’m really excited to see how her character will evolve and change as she adjusts to the life of a widow (btw Kelly Bishop who played Emily confirmed that Emily is now a widow).

1) Did Luke and Lorelei ever get married?

Yes we’ve reached the BIG question on everyone’s minds! I mean we loved Lorelei, we loved Luke, and more importantly we loved them together, so c’mon ‘Gilmore Girls’ writers let’s make this happen (please don’t break our little hearts and sink this ship, we might never recover for the shock…seriously 😩).

YouTube Wednesday: readbyzoe…the Booktube channel that your subscription box NEEDS!

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss an awesome new YouTube readbyzoechannel that every book lover will want to subscribe to right now (well finish reading this post and then go subscribe to the channel…ok? Ok). On this channel Zoe gives her viewers book recommendations, shows us book/bookmark hauls, and proves that she’s a fangirl just like the rest of us (so we can all obsess over our OTPs together yay!!!). So if you’re ready to release your inner nerd then let’s talk about some of the videos on this amazing channel. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The first video that we’re going to talk about is Zoe’s ‘BOOK UNHAUL! [#1]’ video which was uploaded on June 28th, 2014 (you can check out this video below). Honestly this is one of the first book unhauls that I remember watching and I really like the concept of this type of video. Just in case you’re not familiar with this type of video, a book unhaul is when a BookTuber discusses books that they are going to get rid of because they did not enjoy the book, decided that they will probably never read the book, for various other reasons. These are really great videos to check out because you can get a person’s honest opinion about a book before spending money on it. After watching several videos on a BookTuber’s channel you usually get a good idea of what their personal tastes are, and if you have similar tastes then their opinion of a book will probably match your opinion. The next book that we’re going to talk about is Zoe’s ‘BOOKS I’M TAKING TO COLLEGE’ video, which was uploaded on August 22nd, 2014. Now as every book lover knows, if we could we would literally carry our book collections with us everywhere (and I realize that you can do that with e-books but that’s a different topic for a future blog post). If you are/will be living in an apartment or dorm room in the near future then this is an excellent video for you to check out because honestly it can be hard to leave books at home when you now you’ll be away from them for a while (ok we have to resist using #thestruggleisreal here…must resist…ok we obviously can’t because the struggle really is real).

Now we’re going to discuss Zoe’s ‘MY FICTIONAL BOYFRIENDS TAG’ video, which was uploaded on May 28th, 2015. Now we know we’re all fangirls/fanboys at heart, and because of this we honestly have a very deep emotional connection to our favorite book characters (and because of this so many ships are constantly set loose on the world). This is a really fun video that you will definitely have on replay, and a entertaining tag that you can play by yourself or with friends. The final video that we’re going to talk about is Zoe’s ‘BOOKS I WANT TO BE ADAPTED’ video, which was uploaded on December 30th, 2015 (you can check out the video below). If you love books (and you obviously really do if you’re still reading this post), then you know that you have a list of books that you think deserve a TV and/or film adaption. With the trend of so many of our fav books already getting adaptions, it is very likely that your favorite novel could get a small or big screen adaption some day. I highly recommend this video because Zoe gives a very interesting list that’s full of variety, so you’ll definitely find something you like on this list.

Monday Memos: Top 3 TV shows that left us to soon in 2014 & 2015

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to talk about everybody’s favorite pastime…watching T.V.! January is an interesting time for T.V., because this is when new seasons premiere, new shows are added to the list of thing’s we’re obsessed with, and our hearts are broken when our fav shows are cancelled. So let’s take a look at some of the shows in 2014 & 2015 that were taken from us far too soon. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!
crisis3) Crisis (NBC):
This high action drama was another show that had the potential to be so great. It told the story of what happens when the nation’s most powerful people’s children are kidnapped and held for ransom. We not only got to see the drama that the adults went through as they struggled with their parental love and civil duties, but we also got to see the drama that the kids went though as they tried to survive. This is a show that always kept its’ audience on their toes, so I would have liked to see how it would have continued.

2) Red Band Society (FOX):red band society
This show was able to perfectly balance, romance, drama, tragedy, and comedy in an amazing story of terminal ill teenager who live in a hospital. Even though the show only had a 13 episode run, they did a great job of developing their characters, and it’s obvious that we would have fallen even more in love with these characters as the series continued.

twisted 21) Twisted (ABC Family):
This was was another drama that always had us on our toes. This show told the story of a boy named Danny who returns to his hometown after 5 years in a juvenile detention center after being convicted of murdering his aunt. When he returns he reunites with his 2 childhood best friends and soon finds himself accused of committing another murder after a popular girl from his high school dies. In the rest of the season we get romance, lots of drama, and more questions about whether or not Danny really killed his aunt, and if he didn’t what secrets is his family hiding. It’s such a shame that this show ended before we could really dive into the story, and explore these complex characters.

Monday Memos: Top 5 shows to binge watch this winter break

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to talk about one of the past times that we all enjoy…binge watching! Whether you like Netflix, Hulu, DVDs, or anything in between you know that we love spending hours getting lost in our favorite shows. So if you want to know what shows you should watch this winter please keep reading. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

5) Beverly Hills 90210 (Hulu):Beverly-Hills-90210-beverly-hills-90210-2630447-745-543

This classic 90s teen drama is definitely one that all music fans should check out (if you’re not already a fan of it) because this is the show that is given the credit of creating the teen drama genre that brought us other favorites such as Dawson’s Creek, Gossip Girl and so many others. If you think Rosewood has drama just wait until you see what happens in Beverly Hills.

star trek4) Star Trek (Netflix):

If you’re into sci-fi then I’m sure you’re already in love with this groundbreaking franchise, with a new highly anticipated movie coming out next year this is the perfect time to get familiar with Star Trek. This show has great, complex characters, incredible action, and because there have been A LOT of movies, spin-offs, and even an aminated show then you know that this is a franchise that knows what its’ viewers want to see.

3) Digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh (Netflix, Crunchyroll, Yugioh.com): digimon yugioh

Whether you watched these shows as a kid, love anime, or just love amazing shows then you have to rewatch these shows this winter break. If you haven’t revisited the Digital World lately then you need to catch up before this franchise releases it’s newest movie next year (btw if you haven’t seen the 1st movie in the Digimon Adventure Tri series then you need to RIGHT NOW because it’s amazing). 2016 will also bring us a new movie that will follows the King of Games Yugi as he saves the world from evil…again (poor kid can’t get  break). Even though we don’t know a lot about this new movie yet, we do know that it takes place 6 months after the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga ends so now is a good time to dust off your deck and getting ready to duel.

2) Pretty Little Liars (Netflix):

pretty little liarsOk if you’ve ever seen this show then you know that you have to binge watch this show at least every other season to keep up with everything that has happened. Last season we found out who “A” was and honestly were left with even more unanswered questions. When we visit Rosewood again in 2016 we will time jump 5 years in the future, so needless to say you may need a few days to catch up again on all the romance, drama, and suspense (I don’t know if my feels can handle this again y’all).

1) Gilmore Girls (Netflix):gilmore girls

Needless to say the internet went into a frenzy when we found out that we were going back to Stars Hollow. Gilmore Girls had drama, romance, amazing characters, witty writing, and basically made everyone want to move to a small town. If you’ve never seen Gilmore Girls then you are missing a VERY important part of TV history and you need to hop over to Netflix right now and check it out (c’mon you’re on there all day anyway so go on and check it out).

Monday Memos: The Fuller House Teaser Trailer that is bringing back all the feels

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to talk about the 1st ‘Fuller House’ teaser that was recently fuller house teaset trailer picreleased. We previously discussed the ‘6 Things We Want To See in Fuller House’ (you can check out that blog post here: Monday Memos: 6 things we want to see in Fuller House), and I know that we were all super excited to see this teaser (you may now fangirl/fanboy scream…ok that’s enough…seriously please stop freaking out everyone). We didn’t get any new information from this teaser, but it definitely hit you right in the feels. So let’s hop on the nostalgia train and  discuss this amazing new teaser & the other information we have on the return of one of TV’s favorite families! Ready? Ok let’s go!!!

The video is beautifully shot and features parts of the iconic Tanner house such as the kitchen and living room. It also featured the song ‘The House That Built Me’ by Miranda Lambert throughout the trailer, which really adds to the nostalgic feeling you get from the teaser. Although we don’t get to see any of the Tanner/Fuller family, we do get to hear their voices at the end of the teaser, and we even get some classic ‘Full House’ jokes thrown in there such as uncle Jesse’s obsession regarding his hair, and Joey’s iconic “cut it out” line. So needless to say this teaser will definitely hit fans of ‘Full House’ in the nostalgia, and will get you excited for what ‘Fuller House’ will bring when it premieres on February 26th, 2016.

Monday Memos: Clare Bowen…actress, singer, social activist

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we are going to talk about an inspiring story that I know you have all heard clare bowenabout. A few days ago ‘Nashville; star Clare Bowen wrote a Facebook post where she explained why she recently cut her hair. Now most people might think why should I care if an actress cuts her hair? Well just stay with me here because you HAVE to hear this story. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

She went on to explain that the reasoning behind this change was due to a story she heard about a little girl who said that she couldn’t be a princess because she didn’t have long hair. Clare went on to explain that she had cancer (specifically end stage nephroblastroma) as a child. She said that she spent a lot of time in the hospital, and met other children like her who had lost their hair and limbs to their diseases. Clare went on to say in her post that she “wanted her [the little girl mentioned above], and others like her, to know that’s not [by this she means having or not having long hair] what makes a princess, or a warrior, or a superhero”. She finished her post by thanking ABC and Nashville creator Callie Khouri for allowing her to change up her character’s look for this important message. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with messages saying that we need to be smarter, thinner, richer, and overall “better”, it’s important to remember that we are all blessed just to be alive. In her post Clare wraps up her message by saying that “Self-esteem takes a lot longer to grow back than hair”. This message is perfectly summarized in the song ‘A Life That’s Good’ from the show Nashville (I know that Clare isn’t featured on the song, but the message in this song really hits you. The song begins 15 second into the video).
