Hello people of the internet!!! We talk about so many amazing YouTubers that are all incredible and unique in their own way. There is one thing that all of these YouTubers have in common, if you like the channel, then you subscribe to it so you don’t miss a thing. Well what if you could subscribe to YouTube? Yup you heard me right! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to talk about YouTube’s recent announcement that they will begin their 1st subscription service on October 28th. This is definitely a very new move for the website, so keep reading to see how this could affect you. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!
Ok now that I’ve officially freaked you out, let’s break down the details of this news. At an event in Los Angeles earlier today, YouTube released it’s new subscriptions service called ‘YouTube Red’, which allows subscribers to pay $9.99 a month in exchange for some really cool benefits. These benefits include: the ability to watch unlimited YouTube videos completely ad free, the ability to save videos to watch offline when you don’t have a connection to the internet, the ability to continue watching videos while running other apps, unlimited streaming of Google Play Music, and exclusive content from top YouTube creators that you won’t have access to without this subscription. YouTube has said that you will be able to watch a lot of the same content for free, but you won’t have access to any of the bonuses listed above. Needless to say this is a BIG step for a website that is now a huge part of our everyday lives. So what do y’all think of this change? Will you subscribe to ‘YouTube Red’? One thing is for sure, starting October 28th, the way we watch YouTube will be changed forever. Let me know below what you think, and check out this video from theverge.com that explains all of the new changes in greater detail.
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to do something a little different. I thought that since it’s almost Halloween (Yay!!!!), we could talk about 3 amazing makeup tutorial videos that will help you add that special finishing touch to your costume this year. These videos vary in difficulty, but I would definitely give the looks a test run before Halloween (also make sure that you’re not allergic or have any sensitivity to any of the makeup/wax/etc. that the looks may need). I tried to rate these depending on how difficult the look is to replicate (even though the last two are about equal in terms of difficulty). Now let’s get to the looks. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!
3) ‘CLAW WOUND SFX Makeup Tutorial’ by Kait Nichole, which was uploaded on October 12th, 2015. I thought that this would be a good video to kick things off with because it’s a cool way to really make any costume stand out. This look is very detailed so you will have to take your time with this one if you want it to look amazing however, it might be easier to do than the other two looks because it’s on the arm and not the face. In this video Kait does an INCREDIBLE job of explaining exactly how to replicate this wound, so I would definitely give it a try.
2) ‘Reptile Ringmaster Circus Freak Halloween Makeup Tutorial’ by Jordan Hanz, which was uploaded on October 12th, 2015 (I didn’t notice until after I chose the videos that this video and the claw wound video were uploaded on the same day. That’s kind of cool right?). As soon as I saw this look I just completely fell in love with how awesome it is. Now this look is also very detailed so again you have to have patience, but the payoff for the work looks to incredible for words. If you want a unique look that will definitely be Instagram worthy then this is a look to consider. Jordan does a really great job of explaining every step, so even though this may look a little intimidating, just follow her instructions and you’ll look AMAZING.
1) ‘Trippy Double Vision Makeup Look’ by dope2111, which was uploaded on September 17th, 2015. Like I said before, it was EXTREMELY hard to pick a winner for the #1 and #2 spots, but because this is a REALLY different sort of Halloween look, it won. I know that A LOT of you have probably already seen this video, but if you really want a look that will freak out your friends then this is the way to go. This is another look that takes patience to replicate because you want it to look as real as possible. The process is explained so well in this video, so I would definitely give this tutorial a shot. This is a really good look to show off your creativity, because you can build a scary or cute look around it, but still get the creepy factor in either way.
Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we are going to discuss a very special YouTuber. It has been exactly 1 year since the tragic passing of 13 year old beauty guru Talia Castellano. I personally was a huge fan of Talia’s because she seemed to have a very kind spirit, and a beautiful soul. Despite the fact that she was suffering from a very painful disease, she still produced videos that made her viewers smile. Talia always promoted the powerful message of self-acceptance in her videos, and that is a message that is too often lost in modern society. We spend so much time, effort, and money attempting to achieve a standard of “perfection”, without even realizing what true beauty means. The fact that Talia was able to realize this at such a young age should serve as an inspiration to us all, (because let’s admit it, most people are EXTREMELY insecure at 13). So, please read on to learn all about this amazing young girl, and see what you can do to help her legacy live on.
Talia Joy Castellano was born on August 18th, 1999 in Goldenrod, FL. Talia’s infectious optimism, honesty, and fun-loving attitude quickly helped her become a YouTube celebrity in the beauty community. Along with her beauty videos, Talia was also well known for her vlogs about her battle with cancer. Talia was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of 7 years old, when she was x-rayed and showed unusual anatomical displacements in her chest. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (which is a cancer normally found in young children 10 and under, and infants. This type of cancer is divided into 3 levels of severity: low, intermediate, and high risk groups). Talia underwent various types of therapies and treatments, and was said to be cancer free numerous times, however relapsed each time during her 6 year battle. Talia was later diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (which is a disease that was previously known as pre-leukemia). She quickly began gaining a loyal fanbase on YouTube, and in September 2012 was a special guest on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ (this is only a portion of Talia’s guest spot on the show, Talia Gets an Amazing Surprise) and was announced as an honorary face for ‘CoverGirl’ cosmetics. Her ‘CoverGirl’ campaigns included the slogans “Makeup is my wig”, and “Just keep swimming”. She also collaborated with the Orlando, FL based organization ‘BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation’, and launched a fundraising campaign called ‘Bring Hope Home’ (which is a program that helps provide support to children battling cancer in the central Florida area and their families). Sadly, Talia passed away in Orlando, Florida, on July 16, 2013 at the ‘Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children’, after spending the last three months of her life hospitalized for palliative care (which is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses that focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness in order to improve quality of life for both the patient and their family). An announcement was made soon after Talia’s death at 11:22 a.m., on her ‘Angels For Talia’ Facebook page. Some had worried that a nursing home attorney may be needed to step in due to her death, but it was thankfully not the case with her passing, as sad as it still was. At the time of Talia’s death, her channel had more than 750,000 subscribers and 45 million total views. As of July 16, 2014 her channel has 1,358,924 subscribers, and 83,648,296 views.
Talia’s first video was uploaded on August 27th, 2011, and was entitled ‘Crazy Eyeliner’ (you can find the link here Crazy eyeliner). This was a really fun first video because it really showed off Talia’s fun personality, and creative nature. The video consisted of Talia using black eyeliner and eye shadow to create a “Halloween/Goth” look. It was actually a really cool look, because the design included a lot of really interesting curved lines, and some color and glitter here and there, which I thought was a much better option than putting on a mask. The next video that we are going to discuss is Talia’s 2011 Foundation Routine (Foundation Routine!!!! 2011 – YouTube), which was uploaded on November 19th, 2011. I really loved this foundation routine, because Talia used a lot of moisturizers, and tinted moisturizers, which made it the perfect summer foundation routine. Tinted moisturizers are great products to use during the summertime, because they provide coverage, but are also lightweight on your skin, so your pores won’t become clogged so easily (which is very easy to do during the summer because it’s hot and your sweating a lot more…it can just be a bad season skin wise). I thought that Talia’s foundation routine is great for a causal dinner or party because you are able to achieve a very natural look, that perfect for those days when you want to have the effects of a good makeup routine, without having to put in a lot of work to achieve the look. The final video that we are going to talk about in this blog post is Talia’s ‘Dramatic Fall Smokey Eye’ tutorial Dramatic Fall Smokey eye 🙂) which was uploaded on September 27th, 2012. I personally loved this tutorial because I am very unskilled at achieving a smokey eye (usually my attempts make me look like I lost a boxing match), so I admire anyone who can achieve this look, and I definitely took notes from this tutorial. This video really showed how skilled Talia was with makeup, and proved that she could have had a great future in the field. I really loved this look for a special occasion, or fancy party, and just felt that it looked very mature and elegant. I really wish that I could talk to y’all about every video on Talia’s channel, because they were all so good. I HIGHLY suggest you check out her other videos, because trust me, your makeup skills will improve A LOT.
Along with her beauty videos, Talia also uploaded vlogs, where she spoke about cancer, and gave advice to other kids in similar situations. One of Talia’s vlogs that I wanted to speak about was her ‘Coping With Cancer’ (Talia’s Life: Coping with Cancer!) vlog, which was uploaded on November 26th, 2011. In this blog, Talia spoke honestly about how she juggled school and her treatments, as well as how she became confident enough to go out in public without a wig. She stated that she had to miss school regularly because she received treatment in another state; however her teachers were very accommodating. I really loved that Talia mentioned that school was a #1 priority for her, because I’m sure it was not an easy thing to keep up with due to her disease. She also explained how she used to feel insecure when people starred at her, but after dealing with cancer for so many years, became more confident in herself, and was able to use makeup as a way to accentuate her natural beauty. I definitely thought that this video is an excellent resource for anyone with cancer to watch, due to how honest and detailed Talia is.The next vlog that we are going to discuss is Talia’s dance video to Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit song ‘Call Me Maybe’ Calll mmmeee …). I really enjoyed this video, because it really showed that Talia was a fun-loving, regular middle school girl, who seemed to really enjoy dancing around and acting silly. It was nice to get this small glimpse into her life, and actually feel as if you knew her. I really like it when YouTubers allow their fans to get to know them at a personal level, because it makes you feel as if they are your friends. On July 16, 2013, Talia’s older sister Mattia uploaded a video (Talia left her handprints and footprints on the world) explaining that Talia had passed away. She explained how she planned to one day create a makeup and clothing line for Talia. On December 11, 2013, the ‘YouTube Rewind’ YouTube Rewind: What Does 2013 Say? (which is a big video that several popular YouTubers participate in to recap the past year’s events) of 2013 was dedicated to Talia.
As you can see, Talia made a HUGE impact during her time on this earth. She not only inspired fans worldwide, but was also a very accomplished and knowledgeable beauty guru. Although she was taken much too soon, her legacy has lived on in the hearts of her fans, who have taken it upon themselves to much too early, her fans have honored her by accomplishing goals that Talia put on her bucket list before she passed away. Her family has also been able to use Talia’s story as a vehicle to spread awareness of childhood cancer, and to raise funds to find cures, and help the families affected by the disease – far too many families are affected by this (be it through child cancer or even as an adult). It can cause families a lot of stress, countless evenings looking up things like individual critical illness insurance just in case something happens, and the horrible nights spent in the hospital when things get bad. But Talia was there to help, and she did so much, whether intentionally or not. I think that the best way that we can all keep Talia’s legacy alive, is to help raise awareness and to find a cure for the various forms of cancer, and by remembering what Talia taught the world about hope, positivity and true beauty, Talia truly proved that a smile is the best accessory of all.
Hello people of the internet, please allow me for a moment to paint a picture for you. A 16 year old girl receives news one summer from her doctor that she has mono, so she must begin bed rest. Now usually teenagers spend the summer time hanging out with friends, going on trips, swimming, etc.. So what can a 16 year old do during the summer for fun if she’s stuck at home? Well if you ask the girl behind the extremely popular YouTube channel ‘meghanrosette’, you start a career launching YouTube channel.
Meghan Rienks, (whose last name isn’t actually Rosette, the name was created because Meghan’s middle name is Rose) was born on August 4th, 1993 in a city near San Francisco, CA. Meghan has said that she was a “dramatic” child, and officially caught the acting bug after a 3rd grade production of ‘The Wiz’ (where Meghan played a munchkin…o.k. everyone say it with me…awwwww…I’m mean seriously a 3rd grader playing a munchkin, that is just too cute!). Meghan then began taking acting, voice, and dance classes in order to further explore her love of performing. She began experimenting with makeup in the middle school, and continued acting.. Once Meghan entered High School, she soon began performing in numerous school plays. However, Meghan’s most important high school activity would occur the summer before her senior year, when Meghan contracted mono from sharing a soda can with her friend. Although most people would hide in their room and cry over this, Meghan took the advice of her mother, and began a YouTube channel. So, on June 16th, 2010 the channel ‘meghanrosette’ was born, and Meghan’s life was forever changed (Here’s Meghan’s 1st video where she does a fashion haul with one of her friends: Haul with dancer4life34! – YouTube).
On the surface, Meghan’s channel seems like that of any other young guru however, once you watch just a few minutes of any of her 412 videos, you can see that this girl is anything but ordinary. Meghan is not openly knowledgeable about fashion trends, beauty secrets, and everyday life issues, but she also has a charisma and ease on camera that instantly draws you in. She is also extremely witty and goofy, which makes her very relatable, and only adds to her overall charm. I first discovered Meghan a few months ago when I saw her on an episode of the hit show IMO (which stands for In My Opinion), on the super popular AwesomnessTV YouTube channel. On IMO, Meghan is on a rotating panel, where the panelists discuss a wide variety such as; fashion trends, celebrities, relationship/friendship issues, etc. (basically it’s a teen/young adult version of ‘The View’). When I first saw Meghan on IMO, I instantly found her very interesting and funny, and wanted to learn more about her.
After I watched a few of her videos, I could see why she (as of December 10th, 2013) has 535,602 subscribers on her channel. Meghan is not only adored by her large fan base, but has also grabbed the attention of many important fashion and beauty publications. She has been featured in magazines such as Teen Vogue and Seventeen. Meghan has also interviewed celebrities and has done red carpet coverage for Seventeen magazine (here’s a video of Meghan interviewing Ashley Rickards, the star of MTV’s popular show ‘Awkward’: My First Time Tag with Ashley Rickards – YouTube). Along with working on her growing YouTube career, Meghan has also continued acting, and was recently on the hit AwesomnessTV show. She also stars on the YouTube show ‘The Goreys’, as Abigail Gorey (here’s a link to the first episode: Hello Dr. Jacobs – Episode 1 – YouTube). Because of all of these amazing accomplishments that she’s had in such a short time span, I would definitely recommend that EVERYONE keep an eye on Meghan, she will definitely be a huge star soon.
Another reason why I highly recommend Meghan’s channel, is because she is very open and honest with her fans. In her ‘Draw My Life’ video (here’s the link to that video:Draw My Life | MeghanRosette – YouTube), Meghan admitted to having insecurity issues in middle school due to her appearance, and also stated that her elementary school friends shunned her because they were popular and she was not. Meghan has also spoken about the bullying she received from her two best friends in college. She admits that she became anxious, OCD, and suffered a great depression because of what occurred between her and these friends. Although Meghan says that she is in a better mental state now, I think that it was very brave that she decided to reveal some of the struggles she has faced. Her story is truly inspiring, and proves that you can do whatever you set your mind too as long as you follow your dreams and ignore any haters. I think Taylor Swift said it best in her song ‘Ours’, when she states, “People throw rocks at things that shine…”. Due to her bubbly personality, natural charisma, and wit, I certainly see a bright future ahead for Meghan in vlogging and acting. Keep on shinning girl!
