YouTube Wednesday: Take your seat on the nostalgia train as we review the 1st ‘Captain Underpants: The Epic First Movie’ trailer

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re taking another ride on the nostalgia train. If you were a kid in the late 90s then I have a treat for you! After millions of book sells, countless years, and A LOT of Marvel movies, we’re finally getting a movie about a very under appreciated superhero. Yup, today we’re talking about the ‘Captain Underpants: The Epic First Movie’ trailer. Whether you loved this series, or wished everyone would shut up about it, you can’t deny the legacy and reach of this series. When the 1st trailer for the movie dropped recently, I knew that we had to talk about it, so let’s get to the trailer. Ready? Ok, lets go!!!

First let’s get into a brief history lesson about this book series. Captain Undepants was 1st release in the U.S. on September 1, 1997 and ran through August 25, 2015. Over the years the series has been met with critical acclaim and controversy which has landed it at the top of several banned books lists (which honestly we all know only makes a book more popular). Now as for the trailer itself, we definitely see that the movie seems to follow the original source material very closely. Firstly we meet 4th grade best friends George Beard and Harold Hutchins who love pulling pranks at school, and writing about the superhero they created together, Captain Underpants. George and Harold are known to be troublemakers at their school, much to the dismay of the evil Principal Benny Krupp. When George and Harold get in trouble one day, they hypnotize Principal Krupp and he starts to believe that he is Captain Underpants, thus our adventure begins. With the voice talents of stars such as: Kevin Hart (who honestly probably doesn’t need an introduction), Ed Helms (known for his work on ‘The Office’ as well as ‘The Hangover’ movie series, Nick Kroll (who most recently worked on the highly successful 2016 adult animation movie ‘Sausage Party’), this movie is definitely expected to be a huge success. So what do you think people of the internet? Will ‘Captain Underpants: The First Epic movie be a success or a laughable flop? I guess we’ll find out on June 2nd just how far the nostalgia train will ride

YouTube Wednesday: Wotso Videos…if you’re a fun person then this channel has the videos for you

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss Wotso Videos, a very cool YouTube channel that you DEFINTELY need in your life. If you love pop culture, Disney, and numerous other fun topic then this is the channel you need to be subscribed to right now. I’m serious, take a moment and subscribe to this channel right now I’ll wait right here for you. Have you already subscribed? Good! If you still need convincing then please read on. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The first video that we’re going to discuss is Wotso’s ‘How did Gill get his scar video’, which was posted on June 29th, 2016. This video is apart of Wotso’s ‘Discovering Disney’ series, and explains his theory as to why Gill from ‘Finding Nemo’ has a scar. The video is not only entertaining and fun, but also very factual and thought provoking (without making you feel llike you’re back in school). If you love Disney theories (and honestly who doesn’t love ANYTHING related to Disney) then you’ll want to check out the many other videos in this series. The next video that we’re going to discuss is Wotso’s ‘ Ariel Ruled Cindrella’s Kingdom’, which was uploaded on November 15th, 2016 (you can check out this video below). This video discusses the theory that Ariel is Cinderella’s mother-in-law. When I first saw the title of this video, it intantly intrigued me because how cool would it be if these two Disney princesses were actually connected. Although I won’t spoil the video for you, I will say that Wotso brings up some very interesting points in this video, that will really make you question how the other Disney princesses might be connected. Maybe we just don’t know that mouse as well as we thought we did.

Next up we have Wotso’s ‘How Magic Works in Harry Potter! Why Are Spells Spoken And When Do Wizards Need Wands’, which was uploaded on November 22nd, 2016. THis is another entertaining and well thought out video that all Harry Potter fans will fall in love with. Honestly I never really thought abiout the fact that some magical beings say spells and use wands, while others use a wand but perform spells non-verbally, and others don’t use either tool. As any Harry Potter fan knows, J.K. Rowling has always been very detailed with her work so I honestly believe that this video touches upon a lot of info that J.K. must have considered while writing her books. Eithier way this is a fun video for all of us muggles who are dying for another taste of the wizarding world. The last video that we’re going to discuss is Wotso’s ‘Belle Has Stockholm Syndrome?’ video, which was uploaded on March 14th, 2017 (you can check out the video below). This video touches upon a infamous question that has floated around the internet for YEARS. Again I’m not going to spoil the video by revealing Wotso’s position on the question, however I will say that he does a very good job of explaining his position and has definitely convinced me that he’s correct. If you want an answer to the ‘Beauty and The Beast’ question that is as old as time, then definitely check out this video right away!

If you’ve dana burkeynever heard of Dana Burkey then please keep reading because this is an up and coming author that you HAVE to check out. Dana has just released her new book ‘Learning To Fly’ and trust me when I say it’s a MUST HAVE for your summer TBR. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

Learning to fly dANA BURKEY

‘Learning To Fly’ is about a 12 year girl named  Max. She is a tomboy who enjoys hunting, fishing, playing sports, and just generally having fun with her next door neighbors Peter and Kyle. Max’s world is turned upside down when she discovers the world of competitive cheerleading. At first Max decides that the glitter and bows are too girly for her, but through some persuasion from her dad, Max decides to give cheerleading a try. Throughout the course of the story Max finds friends, enemies, and possibly two potential love interests (let the shipping wars begin!). I don’t want to spoil the rest of the book for you, but if you like sports, YA fiction, and stories with a great plot and characters that you will absolutely fall in love with then this is the book for you. Personally I couldn’t put this book down, so I HIGHLY recommend that everyone check out ‘Learning To Fly’ for themselves.

Also keep an eye out for book 2 of this trilogy entitled ‘Reaching The Summit’ which should come out in October of this year, and please keep checking back here and on all of my social media sites for a special giveaway coming soon (trust me you won’t want to miss it!).

YouTube Wednesday: Sophie’s Series…the booktuber that you will love fangirling out with

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to talk about an amazing BookTuber that you NEED to be subscribed to. I’m serious. Go subscribe right now & then we’ll continue. Don’t worry I’ll wait. Did you subscribe? Awesome! Now that you’ve already made one great decision today, make another one by sticking around to find out why you’ll love Sophie’s channel (trust me you made the right decision by subscribing). Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The first video that we’re going to talk about is Sophie’s ‘The Booktube Newbie Tag!’, which was uploaded on March 27th, 2015 (you can check out this video below). This is a really great video to start off with because it allows you to not only get a glimpse of Sophie’s personality, but also her love of books. In this video Sophie allows us to really feel like we know her by explaining why she started a BookTube channel, what book/book series got her into reading, and what fun & unique things she can bring to the BookTube community. After watching this video you’ll feel like Sophie is already your bestie, and it will leave you wanting to know even more about her. Luckily for us, we can learn more about Sophie in her ‘FIVE OF MY AUTO BUY AUTHORS’ video, which was uploaded on July 10th, 2015. Honestly you can learn A LOT about a person based off of who their fav authors are. When you’re a bookworm you read A LOT of books, and I mean A LOT of books so because of this, we all have a small list of authors who we love so much that you can blindly buy any book they release and know that you’ll likely fall in love with it. It’s fun to see our fav BookTubers nerd out with us.

Next up we have Sophie’s ‘BOOKS I’M BRINGING TO COLLEGE!’ video, which was uploaded on September 26th, 2015. Ok, real talk for a second everyone. Now if you’re a book nerd then you know that this is a problem that you either have faced, or will face in your lifetime. For most of us books are like family, they take you to far away places when you need an escape, put a smile on your face during good times, and offer you a warm sheet to cry on during bad times. So the prospect of leaving behind these treasures when we pursue higher education is really sad. Luckily, Sophie is here to remind us that it’s fine if you take some of your books with you on this adventure they call college, and even describes how she decided which books to take. This video is a MUST WATCH for all book addicts. The last video that we’re going to talk about is Sophie’s ‘ANTICIPATED RELEASES OF 2016’ video, which was uploaded on January 9th, 2016 (you can check out the video below). In this video Sophie gives us a list of some of the INCREDIBLE books she’s excited for this year, and also a quick summary of why she’s excited for these books. If you love books then this video will definitely get you hyped for the many awesome 2016 releases (it’s going to be a VERY good year people of the internet!). So now that you’re completely addicted to Sophie’s channel, go check out the rest of her videos, I promise that this is one channel that you’ll constantly have on replay.

Monday Memos: Interview with singer/songwriter/actress/fashion designer Lisa Loeb

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ I have the honor of sharing an interview I recently did with two-time Grammy nomineelisa loeb interview photo Lisa Loeb! You may know Lisa from her platinum-selling hit #1 single ‘Stay (I Missed You), her various voice-over roles in shows such as ‘Spider-Man: The New Animated Series’, ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’, ‘Doc McStuffins’, etc., her eyewear line, or the various other projects that Lisa has had over the past two decades. In this interview we discuss Lisa’s music, eyewear line, her charitable foundation ‘Camp Lisa’, her musical influences, and so much more! Also please keep an eye out for Lisa’s singles ‘3,2,1 Let Go’, and ‘The Disappointing Pancake’, which will be released on vinyl via Blacktop Records on July 8th, 2016. You can also pick up the records at any of Lisa’s upcoming shows:

June 21 – Wolf Trap Theater-in-the-Woods, Virginia

June 22 – Sundown Music Series, Haddon Heights, NJ

July 10 – Oakville Children’s Festival, Ontario

July 11 – Stratford Masonic Concert Hall – Stratford, Ontario (SOLD OUT)

July 12 – Stratford Masonic Concert Hall – Stratford, Ontario

July 13 – Adelaide Hall – Toronto, Ontario

So now let’s get to the interview! Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

Celinda: First of all I would like to thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview. Personally I am such a huge fan of your music, and I know that my readers are excited to hear about all of your new projects. Since we are on the topic of music, what/who would you say originally sparked your interest in music? Also, which bands/artists have influenced your music that would surprise your fans?

Lisa: That’s such a huge question. There are so many musicians and performers who inspired me. My family, the music around me growing up, my friends’ taste in music, the music I was played at school and the music we sang and played at school, music I learned in piano and later guitar lessons, music on the radio.  Wow, so much music all around me.  I usually think of The Police as the band that made me want to play guitar in a band and write music.  I also loved David Bowie’s dramatic singing, writing, storytelling, and all-around aura.  I’m hugely influenced by Led Zeppelin, Olivia Newton John, The Cure, and soft pop from the 1970’s like Bread.

Celinda: I can definitely hear all of those influences in your music. So, how does it feel that Stay (I Missed You) is still such a recognizable and beloved song 22 years after its’ initial release?

Lisa: I love it.  I think it’s incredible that people connect with me and my song so many years later.  People really have sweet nostalgia as well as a current identification with the song. I think that’s why it’s still so powerful so many years later.

Celinda: Now let’s move on to the live action acting you’ve done on television and for films. Did you always want to foray into acting or was it something that you grew to love later in life?

Lisa: I always wanted to be actor, maybe even before I wanted to be a musician. I like the idea of being able to try on different characters and jobs and personalities.  (That just sounded crazy.) I think it’s amazing to put yourself in another person’s shoes.  I loved doing theater in school and college and always studied theater during the summers.  I still use my acting training a lot during live performances and interpreting my own songs night after night. I still hope to spend more time training and doing more acting soon!

Celinda: That’s so exciting, I know I speak for all of your fans when I say we’re excited to see which acting projects you might take on in the future! Along with your live action acting, you’ve also voiced numerous characters on various videos games and television shows such as: ‘Spider-Man: The New Animated Series’, ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates’, ‘Doc McStuffins’, etc., do you feel that your experience as a recording artist has helped you become more comfortable and confident as a voice actress?

Lisa: My acting experience coupled with recording music in the studio has really come together for voice acting.  It’s a place I feel really comfortable and love the collaboration of working with producers, writers, directors, and engineers to come up with the right sound for the animated shows, commercials, and other voice work I do.

Celinda: I would like to take a moment to mention that I love your eyewear line; all of the pieces are gorgeous and very fashionable. Is there a story behind the creation of your eyewear line, or is it something you’ve always wanted to do?

Lisa: The eyewear line is a dream come true.  I’m a huge fan of glasses and finding the perfect pair for myself!  I think glasses can add so much to a person’s face and can help express how a person sees life and how they relate to others.  I love that my eyewear line can help women look beautiful, stylish, flirty, classic, and confident. People look to me for that and now I can finally help people.  Literally, fans and people who like my glasses and my look stop me on the street to talk about glasses. I thought it was time for me to get more involved.  We have lots of tortoiseshell, pops of color, shapes and sizes for different faces and skin tones.  I love when people tell me that they wear their glasses because I wear my glasses.

Celinda: All of the pieces are amazing; you definitely have a great eye for fashion. Moving on, I would like to firstly congratulate you for all of the accomplishments that your organization ‘The Camp Lisa Foundation’ has achieved; it is truly inspiring to see artists give back. What would you say has been the most rewarding part of ‘Camp Lisa’, and what do you hope the foundation will accomplish in the future?

Lisa: It’s amazingly rewarding knowing that kids are going to have a summer camp experience, helping them build their confidence and character as well as connecting them to summer fun. I hope the foundation can continue to send more kids to summer camp! Buying my Camp Lisa record, my “Wake Up!” Blend coffee from https://www.coffeefool.com/collections/charity-coffees and making direct donations to me through The Camp Lisa Foundation through www.LisaLoeb.com are great ways that you can help!

Celinda: Your foundation’s mission is truly beautiful and will definitely continue making a positive impact on numerous children. So I read on your website that you earned a degree in comparative literature from Brown University; did you always aspire to become an author? Also, what inspired you to write children’s books?

Lisa: I really should have studied theater, music, psychology- all areas that interested me the most, but at the time I felt I needed a liberal arts major, and that was it.  I’ve always enjoyed interpretation, and meta-thinking, and overthinking, so it seemed like a good major. I think it’s important to spend quiet connected time with kids, away from the TV and the computers and phones.  These illustrated books help a parent/caregiver/teacher do just that.  These books are fun to explore and read and re-read. I made two kids’ books of lyrics, activities, and recipes for kids ‘Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs’ and ‘Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ & Shakin’: The Air Band Song and Other Toe-tapping Tunes’ and I think a lot of those songs would make really great board books one song at a time.  I have a children’s book up my sleeve now too!

Celinda: That’s so interesting! I know we’re all super excited to read and hear this new book! Moving back to the topic of music for a second, your singles ‘3,2,1 Let Go’ and ‘The Disappointing Pancake’ will be released on 7inch vinyl on July 8th, 2016 in Canada via Blacktop Records. Personally I love the throwback feel of vinyl that you just can’t get with digital or even cd releases, but what inspired you to release these singles on vinyl?

Lisa: “3,2,1 Let Go!” is the kind of song you want to hear on vinyl, and since there’s only one song on each side, you really can focus on listening over and over to each song, since once you hear the songs, you’ll want to listen over and over. ; )  “The Disappointing Pancake” is one of my most popular songs, taken from both the ‘Camp Lisa’ record and the ‘Silly Sing-Along’ book, so I thought I’d highlight it here on this special release.   Plus, even though it was originally written for kids, I think grownups enjoy hearing it- a story that’s different from your lost love song.

Celinda: Thank you again Lisa for taking the time to speak with me today, it was truly an honor. Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to your fans who are reading this interview?

Lisa: I can’t wait to come to Canada!  It’s been really too long since I’ve been there.  Yay!  Yay for us.  I can’t wait to see you!

YouTube Wednesday: Fuller House brings a new vibe to everyone’s favorite theme song

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to talk about a song that is very near andfuller house theme song dear to our hearts. Yes, people of the internet, we’re talking about the ‘Full House’ theme song. We all know that as soon as you hear the opening lyrics of that song you are going to experience a show that’s funny, quirky, and awesome. With the announcement of ‘Fuller House’, we knew that a new theme song would follow, and guess what…it’s here! Now let’s talk all about the theme song below. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

The new theme song is a cover of the ‘Full House’ original theme song ‘Everywhere You Look’ by Carly Rae Jepsen (which was performed by singer/songwriter Jesse Frederick). The song definitely has a more modern feel that sets a new tone for ‘Fuller House’. We also get treated to a new verse in the song, which really helps this version feel like its own theme. So if you haven’t already check out the new theme song, you can hear the song below (and some really cool behind the scenes stuff in the video). Let me know what y’all think in the comment section!

Monday Memos: Damn Daniel…the meme we can’t get out of our heads

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘Monday Memos’ we’re going to talk about that internet meme that EVERYONE is buzzing about, you know the one. Yes, we’re going to talk about the ‘Damn Daniel’ meme. This meme which stars 14 year old Daniel Lara (back at it again with the white vans…sorry I couldn’t help it), and 15 year old Joshua Holz (who provides the voice behind the meme). So what is it about this meme that has taken the internet by storm? Keep reading to find out. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

For years the internet has been flooded by viral hits from the 2007 YouTube videos ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’ & ‘Chocolate Rain’, to the 2011 mega hit ‘Friday’, and more recently 2015’s ‘The Dress’. So what is it that makes a viral hit? Is there a formula for internet fame, or is it truly a fortunate accident? Personally I think that the answer is both more complicated, and simpler than people think. The thing that all of these viral hits have in common is the use of a “good” idea in combination with whatever the new technological fade is at the time. With ‘Charlie Bit My Finger’, ‘Chocolate Rain’, and ‘Friday’, it was exploring what YouTube was truly capable of. The dress took advantage of our love of arguing over the internet. ‘Damn Daniel’ started off as a series of Snapchats that quickly gained popularity over a series of days. This meme took off because it was funny, creative, and took advantage of the fact that we all love videos that only last a few seconds. We love to be entertained, but right now the Internet demands instant entertainment, which makes ‘Damn Daniel’ perfect. With a song made about the meme, a ton of media attention, and even a guest spot on Ellen, it’s obvious that Daniel & Josh did something right, and we will see a lot of similar memes coming out this year.

If you love fashion then you HAVE to watch this video. The final video that we’re going to talk about is Ellie’s ‘Art Haul: My Agnes Cecile Print Collection’, which was uploaded on February 17th, 2016 (you can check out this video below). I chose this video as the last one that we’re going to discuss because I thought that the subject matter was very unique and intriguing. I love it when beauty gurus use their amazing sense of style in unexpected avenues. It’s videos like this that show how different Ellie is from other beauty/fashion gurus, because she is able to add that special something that makes each video an Ellie original.

YouTube Wednesday: First look at the Powerpuff Girls 2016 Reboot

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to take a look at the first voice clip of thepowerpuffgirls reboot 2016 butteercup new Powerpuff Girls reboot that will come to Cartoon Network this spring. When the reboot was originally announced, it was met with happiness and a little bit of skepticism because of the replacement of the 3 Powerpuff Girls. Some fans were a little weary about whether or not they liked the idea of 3 new actresses voicing these beloved characters. Well now we finally get the chance to hear the FIRST new Powerpuff Girl voice! In this new clip, that Cartoon Network has uploaded to its’ YouTube page, we get to hear Natalie Palamides as the voice of the tough and spunky Buttercup (who was voiced by E.G. Daily in the original show). Although the voice is different from the original, I think that Natalie was still able to capture the edgy attitude that made us fall in love with Buttercup. What do y’all think of Buttercup’s new voice? If you haven’t seen this clip check it out, and let me know in the comments below.

YouTube Wednesday: Ned is back with his survival guide to life

Hello people of the internet!!! On today’s ‘YouTube Wednesday’ we’re going to discuss another show that is getting a devon's life survival guide yt wedreboot. Now I know you’re probably thinking that the world has gone reboot and spin-off crazy, but this show is spinning this idea in a different way. If you watched Nickelodeon from 2004-2007, then I know that you remember the show ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’. This show starred Devon Werkheiser as a middle school kid named Ned Bigby, who gave us tips on how to survive all of the issues and problems that everyone faces in middle school. The show was very funny and entertaining, but honestly did give a lot of good advice that you could actually apply to everyday life. Unfortunately ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’ ended with the three main characters graduating to high school, and thus left us to face high school, college, and life on our own. Luckily due to fan demand, Devon is now back in a new YouTube series that will help is all learn how to survive life. Three episodes of the show are already up, and they are AMAZING! so if you’re ready let’s talk about this incredible new series. Ready? Ok, let’s go!!!

So far ‘Devon’s Life Survival Guide’ has covered the topics of: fame, working hard, and choosing your own destiny in life. The show airs new episodes on YouTube every Monday, and will definitely continue to cover topics that everyone deals with. Also, each episode opens with a very interesting quote that is related to the topic of the video. What I really love about ‘Devon’s Life Survival Guide’ is that the topics that it discusses are aspects of life that we all deal with or will deal with in the future. Whether you’re in school or not, we’re all trying to understand the things life throws at us and make the best of it. It’s cool to see someone who helped so many of us as kids continue to help us now that we’ve entered the “real world”.
